Susan Cole:  

After graduation, Susan went to Stanford University where she graduated April 1, 1960 with a BA in theatre and stayed on to complete an MA in 1961. In the fall of 1962, she took a job at Bakersfield College in California as a scenographer and teacher. She was there for 7 years before going to the University of Oregon to work on a PhD in general theatre. In 1973 with degree in hand she began 3 years as director of theatre at Keuka College in upstate New York. While there she moved the theatre area from the English Department to a Department of Theatre and Dance and served as chair. The next year the arts areas were combined into a single department also with Susan as chair. Susan was hired as Director of Theatre in the Speech Department at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC in 1975, and served as chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance from its formation in 1989 to her retirement in 2005. She has directed more than 60 plays and has designed scenery and lighting for over 50 productions and costumes for more than 80.
