Susan's Story
After graduating from high school, I enrolled at LaCrosse State University.
In the spring/summer of '71 we moved to Tennessee.
Enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in September of '71 and went to Fort McClellan, Alabama.
Went to communications school at Fort Gordon, GA until March of '72.
Stationed in Arlington, VA at Fort Myer from '72 to '76 and worked at the Puzzle Palace, more commonly known as the Pentagon. I worked in the Pentagon Telecommunications Center for 4 1/2 years.
Stationed in Seoul, Korea from '76 to '78.
Was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in March, 1978.
Lived in Arlington VA from 1978 to 1979, moved back to Tennessee.
Enrolled at Roane State Community College in 1979 and graduated in 1981 with an Associate of Science degree in General Studies.
Worked FT for an attorney in Knoxville, TN for a couple of years and
in 1984 started work part time at Roane State Community College as an Evening Receptionst.
In 1985, started working 3/4 time at Roane State and became a full-time employee in 1986.
I have been here ever since, mostly as a Faculty Secretary/Techical Clerk.
I received my Certified Professional Secretary certification in 1996 (which I received a 9% raise!!). If you add up all the raises that we have received in the last 20 years, (since I have worked for the state of Tennessee)that might add up to 9%!
Hope to retire (but I seriously doubt it, since I just bought a new car), by the time I'm 70 years old.
I knew I should have planned this out better!!!!
I've never married (though I came close one time wh...Expand for more
ile I was in the military), I have no children of my own, but I have quite a few niece's and nephew's that I love dearly and several great-niece's & nephew's that I love a whole bunch!!!!
I promise I will post pictures. I just have to find them first!!!!
I have been fortunate in life that my mom and sibilings are alive and well, and living fairly close by in East Tennessee!!!
1. I always wanted to be an
Archaeologist (like Indiana
Jones),when I grew up.
2. I blow off steam by fishing,
listening to calm meditative
music, playing with Ari (my 4-year
-old great-niece or her little
baby brother, Aiden (he just
turned 7 months), or walking along
the beaches in Destin, FL (going
on vacation w/some family members
in two weeks)!! Another way I blow
off steam is to count to ten though
sometimes, I do not make it.
3. The one person from my past who
I'd most like to see again is my
grandmother (my mother's mom).
She has been gone since 1971. The
reason we moved back to Tennessee,
to be near her. I love her dearly
to this day and miss her very,
very much!!!
4. I love to watch college football
and college basketball the most.
I follow the Wisconsin Badgers and
the Tennessee Lady Vols
extensively. Just signed up for
DirectTV's college football.
5. If I had one do-over, I would have
entered a community college right
after high school, before
attending a four-year college.
Maybe now I would be an
Archaeologist.
