Susy Hammons:

CLASS OF 1962
Wichita, KS

Susy's Story

I graduated from KU in 1966. Married Phil Hammons in 1968 and moved to Hazelwood, MO. We had Joshua John in 1972 and Carey Carson in 1974. Moved back to Ft. Scott, KS in 1975. I discovered I am a small town girl at heart. Lived in a big old (1989) house on a brick street. In 1989 I was divorced and went to Pittsburg State University to get a Masters in Counseling as my BA in English because I liked to read had not prepared me to support myself. I ended up with 2 Masters and worked as a Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Counselor at Crawford Co. Mental Health until I retired early in 2007. I spend mornings at the YMCA and walk my son's dog, Floyd, daily. I belong to P.E.O. and was in Wichita recently for the last day of the Convention. I have started a group call...Expand for more
ed Liberal Ladies Who Lunch that meets every 2 weeks. Out of that came a group called Progressive Alliance and now we are starting a NOW chapter in Pittsburg. I was never very political before so this all seems very amazing. I have 2 grandchildren, Avery Jane (6)and Nathaniel Carson (3) with Carey and Rusty in KC. Josh is single and lives in Pittsburg. They both graduated from PSU. My Dad is almost 99 and lives on his own in Wichita. I just attended a KU minicollege and recommend it highly. It was a camp experience and I met lots of great people and learned a lot. My bravest moment was taking a class on being a stand up comedienne. People kept drifting out, but about 12 of us hung in there. I came out with one joke and no aptitude for writing or telling jokes.
