Sydney's Story
Hi guys and gals,
A lot has happened since 1974. Never finished college (jeez, how I hate ALGEBRA!!). Been married to Ted now for 31 years (on 10/13), and he manages the Angus Restaurant on Scenic Hwy here in Pensacola. God gave us two of the greatest kids in the world. Mary is 24, married to Blake, and is in nursing school and works at the Angus as a server. She and hubby are living with us currently to help them save money for a down payment on a house when they finish school in about 2 years. My son-in-law Blake is attending Troy online while working as a supervisor at one of those Plasma collection sites. My son Ted just started at Pen State (formerly Pensacola JUNIOR College, now State College), getting his degree in Restaurant and Hospitality Management. That's his "fall-back" profession. When he graduates, if the calling is still there, he will attend Holy Cross Hellenic College near Boston to become an Orthodox Priest (Greek or Antiochian, hasn't decided yet). He is also a server at the Angus (btw-they both worked there before their dad did.) My job is to provide employees to the Angus and I also make homemade baklava for them. So, if you're in Pensacola, go to the Angus, meet my family, have a delicious dinner and save room for dessert!
I still love horses, and all animals in general. Have a "non-allergic" dog, Monet, who probably came from a puppy mill (she's a Bichon Frise). She's 14 now and I will have to put her down soon. She has aged dog problems (arthritis, deafness, incontinence, and mostly blind). I also thi...Expand for more
nk she's senile for reasons too long to go into here. But, she's been a great dog for our family and I will certainly miss her.
I stay busy with this and that - the baklava, of course, managing my house, keeping the kids and hub's in line, riding, writing, reading, walks, cleaning up after the dog (again) and letting her in and out (again). Just replaced 42' of fence with my son (have nail-gun, will travel), and the double gate to it. That was fun and it sure beats cleaning toilets or dusting - it lasts SO MUCH longer!! My son then laid out patio stones for the fence to swing over. I couldn't help with that as the stones weighed 56 lbs each. Still have some problems with my back, thanks to the horse that tried to kill me right before we all graduated. There's a memory I can live without. Wait a minute, i can't remember any of that day. Well, you know what I mean.
Hurricane Ivan was fun - he ate one end of my house (two BRs and a Bath). Dealing with the Insurance company was the worst. I had to threaten to sue them to get many things "covered" including my roof which wouldn't stop leaking, tho' they insisted there was nothing wrong with it.
Well, I hope you all remember me as the person who stood up for the underdog (and drew horses on everything). I still can't stand to see anyone bullied and still tend to like everyone I meet. Some things don't change. And Mea Culpa if I drew on anything important to you.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the next reunion, whenever that might be. Be good to yourselves!
Go VIKES!!
