Sylvia's Story
I'm still teaching - on my 36th year now! Still like the kids, still like my subject (children) and still dislike grading papers and all the teacher busy work we are loaded down with - oh well, that's life!
My husband is retired and our youngest son still lives with us. Our older son is a CSI with the Harlingen police department and I have 2 wonderful grandsons - 13 and 9 - as well as 2 dogs, a Black Lab and a Catahoula. We have been blessed with good friends here in Texas and have a busy life. I try to come home to PA every summer and keep my eyes peeled for old classmates. Would we recognize each other though?

rked really hard to get out of that and I have been able to so much so that people who know me now cannot believe I was ever shy. I wish I could have gotten over that earlier because I think sometimes shyness comes across as snobbishness and believe me, that was never the case.
Teaching was great therapy for that and I tried to bring out my shy students as much as I could. I have genuinely loved "my kids". If you were my student you still are "my kid", no matter how old you are! You all have enriched my life greatly. Thanks to all of you!
I try to live gratitude as much as I can each day and to not get all worked up about the bumps we encounter inevitably. I've had my share of hard times, as we all have, and I find it more peaceful not to live with pessimism, but to look for the gift that each experience brings. Best wishes to you.
