Tamara's Story
Hi...Tami here...
I'm now married and living in San Clemente with my husband, Michael (#2) and 16 year old daughter, Alexandra. Also in the house are Tucker, the dog with an Austrailian bark (Austrailian Shepard), Killer the beta fish and bunch of fun to watch fish and invertibrates in the saltwater tank.
Speaking of saltwater, its funny how things you found fun as kid come back as a lifestyle later. Before I moved to La Palma (1977), I lived in the south. Lori Shea (Taylor), Jan Asher (Taylor)...yeah they're now sisters by marriage...and a few others remember my hick accent that now only appears after a shot or two of tequilla. Anyway, I sailed in lakes as a kid and pretty much forgot all about how much I loved moving along the water until around 1984.
My Dad passed away shortly after gradution and we sold the house on Barbi Lane. We moved to Lake Forest and Mom eventually began dating. One fellow stuck around for awhile (miss you Bob) and re-introduced me to sailing, which eventually turned to competitive racing.
We'll I've now spend my weekends and vacations on the water competing up and down ...Expand for more
the coast including Mexico with an all women's crew infamously known as the "Nauti Chicas." Since I don't discriminate, I also race on a J-29 "Sedona" as the token chick and we've been successfully sweeping up trophies at regattas and championships in our district.
Fortunately, my hubby shares the passion and also crews on Sedona. So if we never answer the phone at home...assume we're on the water either racing - breaking other people's toys - or cruising on our Hunter 33 sailboat slipped in Dana Point.
Ever in the area...let me know and we'll head out for a sail. All I need is an excuse!
As for how I provide for so much fun? Don't laugh, but I'm a marketing executive for new homes - better known as master planned communities. Not the ideal industry right now, but so far I'm still employed. Fortunately, I've been doing the real estate thing for a long time - both commercial and residential - so hopefully I'll get through the bumps.
Still see a few buds from JFK; however not as often as I would like. Last year a bunch of locals got together and had a blast. I sure hope we can do it again soon!
