Tamara's Story

After high school, I attended Seattle Pacific University and Western Washington University, (concentrating in classes for a Communications major) then moved to Provo, UT where I worked full time and took classes at BYU and Utah Technical College. That is also where I met my husband, Darren Wilcox. We moved to San Diego in 1989. Darren was offered a job as a mechanical engineer with Hewlett Packard at that time, and we've been here ever since. We have four children: Jessica 24, Eric 22, Heather 20, and Caleb 17. I have been a stay-at-home mom, occasionally working from home in jobs ranging from bookkeeping to making banners for school events. My two oldest children served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, one in Madrid Spain, and the other in southern France. c and Heather have also married this year--we've had three weddings in exactly 12 months! I have wonderful children; I am very proud of their choices and accomplishments, and I love being a mother! We enjoy traveling, especially to places of historic interest, so we've been to Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Nauvoo, Washington DC, Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Palmyra. My husband and I took a wonderful trip to Greece, and just last year, we took the whole family to Europe where Jessica and Eric served as our tour guides! Any spare time I have is spent reading (I especially like historic novels), gardening, singing in our church choir, and volunteering at church and at the high school. I'm also an enthusiastic fan of my Caleb's roller hockey team! My husband and I have been married 26 years now and are very much in love. We look forward to being grandparents and also travelling more after Caleb graduates in 2012.
