Kelly's Story

If you have arrived here by looking for Tami Banta, in a way you found her. I am Tami's younger sister, some of you may have met me, I was the terror underfoot who she was so patient with. My sister went to Foothill for all four years of high school, made many a friend, was stat girl for the Wrestling team, straight A student, spoke French fluently and even wen to Dublin High to continue on with her learning of the French language. She went to all the football games, helped with events, and an overall sweet and genuine person and the best sister a girl could ask for. I mean she did have to put up with me and my bad behavior, like chasing her with bees when I knew she was scared of them, I'll leave it at that. She graduated and was accepted to San Jose State, planned on majoring in Mental Health for Mentally Disabled Children, lover of animals, liked to draw and taught me, and would paint on rocks then mount them on copper and string them. I am sure some of her friends might still have these treasures. She was working at Gay 90s Pizza, one night on the way to work she was in a fatal car crash on Foothill Road, she was pronounced DOA. I was 10 at the time, I am 44 now, and I still miss her. Her accident happened right next to the Upshaw's house, Mr. Upshaw was on the Oakland Raiders, Tami babysat their son. Mrs. Upshaw heard the crash, her car had gone down in an embankment and straight into a Oak tree, which that road is famous for. Her steering wheel crushed her due to wearing her seat-belt, which was not a law at the time, but goes to show you what a careful driver she was, some of you may remember the write up. Mrs. Upshaw came to our house and left us a note to come home to find asking us to call her, part of me died that night. Just to let you all know in case you heard another story, the crash was an ACCIDENT! There were no eye witnesses, yet some woman, who claimed my sister was playing chicken with another car. If you knew Tami at all, even a little bit, you know this is a false statement. Though we do believe someone was in the area and never came forward, her class ring went missing that day, she never took it off, it was not on her, or in the car, or in any of her belongings, the hand that always wore that ring was partially out the window of her car. Mrs. Upshaw loved Tami, and once she saw it was her and what had happened she immediately called the police, there are several gaps where my sister was alone, but was unconscious the whole time, I hope one day someone will come forward with info, her name is engraved on that ring, my Mom tore the car apart looking for it, we searched the area for hours, day after day, that tree will be forever marked. A tree was planted on the Foothill campus a...Expand for more
long with a plaque and a bench, in the years after her attendance and up to mine, in 82', lowlife scumbags destroyed it, broke the tree and stole the plaque, last I saw in 86' all that remained was a graffiti ed bench that many a fight was created over, forgot to mention the part about me being a tomboy with an attitude, and major anger issues. I eventually was able to deal with it, even ignore it, realizing it was not my sister, or a belonging of, and got tired of being in the office for being a blah blah blah, gotta love censorship and the kid who was pitied. I was drafted by McClure because I was 5'8 as a freshman, it was a good way to release pent up energy, if you knew McClure you knew his drills. I have signed her on here because its her right as a dedicated student to Foothill to have her name listed among her friends, Mona, Nan, and many others. I have tried to remember all of your names but other then brief meetings, and a few occasional eavesdropping on the phone, I can not remember everyone's name. So if you knew my sister, I would love to hear your stories, share your time with her and any photo's you may have of her. You can find me on Facebook, please send me a friend request, I'd be most appreciative of any moments you have to share, she is always with me. Survival: My life bio in a paragraph.....hhmmm How about the present 5 minutes of time. Im a 3D modeler and animator who will be working on her masters in film and hope to be starting up a production company soon, right now I am sticking with freelancing, less overhead that way. I was a single parent who has found her soulmate and will be stepping up to the plate in major crisis, drama, the world will be coming to an end any minute, everyone hates me I'm going to eat a worm lovely age of 14, I loved being a single parent, but will be changing that soon. I'm in happy shades of blues and greens but always strives for more, there is always more. I have downsized from my once called the Zoo, four cats and one dog, all rescue, and in all fairness, one is my daughters and one was brought into the family by my Fiance. I use to volunteer weekly at my daughters school, but if I did now she would be mortified, to think she is going into high school next year. I have entertained the idea of maybe one day teaching. Mel at Foothill was a huge inspiration to me and Id like to pay that back one day........... have entertained the idea of starting up a small class for kids who want to grow, but do not have the funds to do so. Not a charity, just a cool place for kids to get away and expand their imagination, not everything is about money. Gratification is priceless when you have been able to help another take one step closer to their dreams.
