Tammy's Story
Graduation meant I was finally able to get out of Cozad (as most of us wanted to do) - I spent the summer in Colorado working/partying and just making new friends. Then it was off to Kearney To go to College.
College was an eye-opener, as I'm sure it is for many. I enjoyed college life - perhaps a little too much as I burnt myself out. (Note: Do not expect your kids to take 18 credit hours a semester/work full time/party all the time and make it) So....my plans got pushed up...I went ahead and joined the military a couple years earlier and not as an officer. That's okay - as I loved the military. The Air Force brought life into perspective for me - helped me learn to control my temper and introduced me to many wonderful people, many whom i still have in my life today.
I ended up giving up my Air Force Dream - to do something even bigger - better and so much harder. Motherhood. I met my Ex-Husband in the military and at the time - he was sent to Saudi - As my squad was the next to go and they were sending women a week after they had their babies - my decision was clear to me. I ended my Active Duty Career in December - married my Ex-husband by proxy the end of December, had my son in January - my squadron flew to Saudi beginning of Feb.
For those who do not know what married by proxy means.....My now EX - was in Saudi - he signed papers giving his...Expand for more
1st Sgt permission to stand in for him and say I do. So, yes, I stood up and said my vows to his 1st Sgt, his wife was a witness along with one other friend - and bam! We were married.
From this point - our family steadily grew with each move. Moved from Las Vegas, NV to Fairbanks, AK - my second son was born there. During my time in AK - I was a member of the Air National Guard (Loved it). We moved from there to Cheyenne, WY - I had my daughter there. Continued my career with the Air National Guard. At this point - my EX decided that he didn't want to be in the military anymore and left the Military to work for the Federal Prision System doing the same thing he did while Active Duty Air Force. We once again moved - this time to Pennsylvania. It wasn't long until a job came open in Kentucky (his home state) and we moved to where we are now.
I've enjoyed seeing so much of the US and meeting so many wonderful people. It's always been hard being away from my family and my "home", but really, I wouldn't change anything.
I am currently working as a Area Finance Manager for a Environmental Company that is located here in KY. I love the work - hate the long hours.
That's about it in a nutshell - I am seriously considering moving back to NE to be closer to my famiily. Also - I'm a new Aunt again - and would really love to be around my nephews more.
