Tammy (Tamara)'s Story
Life
I've been very blessed in my life with wonderful family and friends. After high school, I decided not to go to a university, but instead to go to a business college to pursue a career in what I enjoyed most in high school...Accounting. I went to Hickey School in Clayton, MO, and during that time, I worked for a jewelry manufacturer doing their bookkeeping. After graduating from the ten-month program, I worked for a small CPA firm in Granite City. During that time, I also was selected to be a Steam Heat Dancer for the St. Louis Steamers (MISL). That was a wonderful time because I met a great group of ladies on my squad, along with getting the opportunity to meet many area sports personalities. I was with the Steam Heat until August, 1986, when I chose to move to Tampa, FL. Moving to Florida had always been a dream of mine after vacationing there for many years. I had family in Tampa (my Brother lived there), so that made the transition easier. I worked for a short time with a small CPA firm in Tampa before moving closer to the beach (Clearwater area), and took a job with a larger CPA firm near home. I was a gym rat, working out daily. I lived for the beach and the gym and was training to compete in a "natural" bodybuilding competition when I injured my back. I continued training about six months later, but I had lost the desire to compete and train the way I had. I got married and divorced, all within a three year time frame. I went to work for a group of six cardiologists as the Accounting Supervisor. I talked my Mom into moving to Florida, and she went to work for a group of Cardiologists. Years later, our two groups merged, and now there are twenty physicians. I left that medical practice at the beginning of 2000 and went to work for a start-up technology company. Too much stress (imagine that), and eleven months later, and I decided to take a break. I was on my last semester at University of South Florida (oh, I left that out...I went back to school when I was married...going part-time towards my Accounting degree). I took eight months off work, finished my degree, and sent myself to Europe for a graduation present. It was a wonderful experience! Even though I had just completed my B.S. in Accounting, after 8 long years, I decided to attempt to change careers. Unfortunately, that didn't work out, and here I am, back in a CPA environment. I manage a medium-sized firm in Clearwater, FL. I'm also partner in a payroll processing company. My person...Expand for more
al life has been no "bowl of cherries." I have had previous relationships, none worth mentioning here, but after giving up hope of ever finding someone I was truly compatible with, I only had to go back to my home town for my 20-year class reunion to find him. From the moment I saw him and talked to him at the mixer, everything just clicked. We did the long-distance dating thing for a while, taking turns visiting each other for six months, and then he put his house up for sale, took a job transfer, and moved to Florida, for me. He was there for me when I lost my best friend of ten years in a boating accident, and we were able to spend over three years together in a comfortable relationship. However, sometimes things just don't work out. Of course I still care about him, and I hope for only the best for him. I'm a difficult person to live with - some people are just set in their ways, and I'm one of them. Updated 4/28/09 - have kept in touch with Gary (Bramlet) Grant a bit over the last few years. We had also met up at the same mixer that I met Chris before our reunion. Gary got married after that for a few years and most recently we reconnected when I went back home for a relative's funeral. I'm not really sure what it is about people back home, but it's familiar and comfortable. We have started dating (another long-distance thing), hoping this one works out better than the last. We are very different in many respects, but I think that only makes us closer, and where I'm more straight and narrow - his "wild side" is exciting for me. He just left here this morning after vacationing here with me for a week, and I'm looking forward to his return in three weeks. Here's to enjoying my Florida lifestyle with one foot back home in Illinois! I still love it here, but is it too much to ask to have a flexible job that would allow me to live in both places? LOL Oh, and an update on my career - last July (2008), I quit the high stress job of managing a CPA firm and payroll processing company. I am now working three 10-hour days for an elevator company (doing their internal accounting), and I have started my own tax/accounting/consulting firm. I set my own hours and pick my own clients. Work is slow, but I learned that "all the money in the world isn't worth your mental and physical health," and as long as I can pay my bills, then I am much luckier than many - especially in these tough economic times! If you're reading this - I hope I haven't bored you to tears! :-D
