I got married before I finished high school, in November of 1984, to a wonderful, caring, loving man named Chris Keeter. He and I are still going strong today. After completing high school, I went to work full-time but soon determined that I didn't want to remain in a dead end job for the rest of my life. My husband was making pretty good money and paid for me to go to school. I received my Associates Degree in Computer Programming from ACC in Haw River less than two years later in 1989. Shortly, after finishing my degree, in March of 1989, I took a job with Orange County Schools as their TIMS Data Manager. This job involved mostly data entry, reporting, and monitoring. It was not what I went to school for. Thus, about a year and a half later, I interviewed with Carolina Steel in Greensboro and landed my first programming job in November of 1990. It was entry level and I was very green. I had to drive from Hillsborough to Greensboro everyday. I learned a lot but after having my first child, Malana in 1993, I realized that I wanted to be closer to home. I applied and interviewed with Elon College, now Elon University, and began working there in June of 1994. Elon was more of a family atmosphere. The employees were few so we became close friends with each other. I had my second child, Christina, in 1996 while working at Elon.
