Tanya's Story

Hello, old friend! I graduated from Texas Tech University in December of 1981 with a B.A. in Speech and Hearing Sciences and again in May of 1984 with a M.S. also in Speech and Hearing Sciences. I completed my Educational Diagnostician's certification in June of 2001 and my Principal's certification in June of 2004. I married Larry Loffler, a Seminole native (can you believe it?), on March 14, 1987. We have one daughter, Madison Marie, born Jan. 19, 1989. I worked in DC as a Speech-Language Pathologist for 16 years also teaching American Sign Language at the High School for several of those last years. We lived in DC until we moved to Seminole on April 1, 2000. I was employed by Seminole I.S.D. as an Educational Diagnostician for three years, an Assistant Principal at the High School for five years, and took over as the High School Principal on Sept. 14, 2007 until June 30, 2009. In July, we relocated to the beautiful Texas hill country where we'd always dreamed about retiring. We live in Driftwood, Texas which is not really even a town. We're out in the middle of the beautiful oak trees and creeks about 20 minutes from the heart of Austin. For two years, I commuted about an hour one way to work in Pflugerville ISD as the Director of Special Education. Schools were becoming not such a wonderful place to be working any more, so I retired effective June 2011. It's nice to be receiving a Teacher Retirement System of Texas check and have other options. I began woking for Carousel Pediatrics as their Specialty Services Manager in May 2011 and hope to continue this position until Madison finishes graduate school (May 2015) or until I can officially retire altogether! Larry still works for Occidental Petroleum but s...Expand for more
tarted a new job in Houston in January of 2009 as an Optimization Specialist. His job offer is what allowed us to get down here to the hill country enabling us to make the move now rather than waiting until we retired. In the past, he had to make the long drive from west Texas to use his UT season football tickets, but now, we make the short trip in to Austin for those games. Our daughter, Madison, graduated from Seminole High School in May 2007. We moved her in at The University of Texas at Austin where she began classes for the fall semester in August 2007. (Tech was too close to home for the independent young lady we'd raised!) She completed her B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a concentration in Audiology on December 18, 2010. She is in her second year of a four year doctoral program planning to graduate with an AuD (Doctorate of Audiology). We see her a little more frequently now that the drive home is only 20 minutes rather than 6 1/2 hours! My Nana passed away in April of 1985, and my mom and step-dad still live in Denver City and are doing well. Both are retired and enjoying life. We're trying to get them to move down to the most beautiful part of Texas, but so far, no luck. We'd love to hear from you. I didn't get much input concerning a 30th Reunion when I started posting stuff in July of 2006, so nothing happened for our 30th. I hate to see the years keep passing by and us not getting together, but it appears that everyone is very busy and doesn't want to commit to organizing something. Let me know if there's a change in that desire, and I'll try to get some help organizing something! Health and happiness to you and your loved ones until I can see you and hug your neck! Love, Tanya
