Dean's Story

Howdy; I graduated in June of 77 and within a month was at (Lackland A.F.B.) in San Antonio Texas for Basic Training. I was stationed in (Sheppard A.F.B.) Wichita Falls Texas, (Clarke Air Base) Angeles City Phillippines, (Malmstrom A.F.B.) Great Falls, Montana. I got out of the USAF after 1 tour and lived out in Montana, Wyoming, Utah for a while working construction of gas pipelines and working oil rigs as a "Roughneck". I also was a driver/helper for Allied Van Lines during lulls in working the oil rigs and pipelines. That Gator in the bushes called me home though. I came back to Florida and went to work at of IBEW L.U. 108 in the SELCAT apprenticeship program. I worked a few years as an App. Lineman yet because of having to travel and having met someone I opted to get out of the apprecticeship program. I went to work for Home Depot when the company was only 4 years old and eventually went out to Houston Texas in management. During this time period I married the woman whom is my wife/best friend to this day. We have a daughter of whom I am very proud of. My wife is a stay at home Grandmother now having retired from UnitedHealth Care after 30 plus years working for Metropolitan Life/ MetraHealth/UHC. My daughter works for a large law firm and earned her BA from USF in Communications approximately one year ago. It took her a while to figure out she needed to get a degree yet she went back to school and got her degree. She is doing great in her job. She was a Legal Assistant yet is now an Excutive Assistant for Power Design Inc. She is married to a very good guy. Her husband is a general manager for a Hooters. My daughter bought a house 4 doors down from my wife and I. I have a two year old Granddaughter and two Grandsons! I enjoy being a Granddaddy. After a few years of working retail I realized that my true calling was working the "High Lines". I left Home Depot and went to work for Florida Power Corporation which has now become Progress Energy. After years of working on transmission line and substation crews I became a Lead Transmission Inspector. What I do is oversee contractors building transmissio...Expand for more
n lines and substations for Progress Energy. I have been with FPC/PE now for 24 1/2 years. The job I have now is in my estimation the absolute best in my company. I really love what I do. I am an avid football and hockey fan. In fact I opted not to renew my Buccaneer season tickets that have been in the family since the inception of the Bucs in 1976. It will be very strange not going to home Buccaneer games every Sunday like I used to. I was able to go out to San Diego to see our Buccaneers win the Super Bowl. I also was at the St. Pete Times Forum for the Tampa Bay Lightning Stanley Cup run. Not many people can say that got a chance to see their football and hockey teams win their respective championships. I attend Ray's games, a few Buc's games a year and a few Lightning games as well as quite a few Bulls games. I have been blessed. For many years I worked out religously yet over the year have developed arthritis in my shoulders from using heavy weights. I keep saying I am going to get back to working out yet now that I have been out of weight training for about 5 years or better I can't seem to get motivated to get back to the gym. The good Lord has been very good to me. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people and have some very close friends. In fact I keep in touch with one of my old classmates regularly now and am in contact with another one periodically. My wife , daughter and I are close to a young man and his wife who grew up across the street. This young man played football for Auburn then went on and has played in the NFL for 6 years. I have been given the chance to be a part of a big time college football program and visited this young man and his wife in two of the cities he played pro-ball for. For an avid football fan like myself I have lived a dream. In closing hope this gives some of my old classmates some insight into what has transpired with me since 1977. To be honest I am like propably most of you and don't remember very many of my classmates. Yet having said that there is no time like the present to re-introduce ourselves. Hope everything is well with all of you.
