Tanya's Story

If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a reason for doing it, freedom to make a difference, and intellectual challenge to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Teaching lets me do all of that. I went to college at 32 and got a degree in special education. Both of my sons have special needs and I met such amazing kids because of them that I decided to teach special ed. d we didn't stay in touch.. The biggest surprise in my life has been that I became a mother. I never wanted kids and yet they are now the most important thing in my life. It has been hard since they both have needed extra help but man the payoffs are unbelievable. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to Heifer International, then spend the rest on a new house, a trip around the world and getting my PhD. My current age is 37. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be nearly dead and really boring. I was so completely wrong.
