Tara's Story
I moved my junior/senior year (I was planning on graduating a year early) to Brookville OH in 1973, a much smaller community/high school.
After h.s., I went to Wright State but dropped out a year later to marry in August 1975. Thirty-four years later, I'm still married to the same guy. We had three children: Jennifer (b. 1978 d. 1980); Andrew
(b. 1981); Benjamin (b. 1983).
When my sons were in middle school, I went back to Wright State and earned a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Philosophy. I then taught at Wright State for the English dept. while I earned a M. of Humanities degree, studying English, philosophy and creative writing. With my masters, I taught at Wright State, UD and Central State and earned a M.F.A in Poetry from Goddard College in Vermont in 2002. I quit teaching in 2003 to recover from breast cancer (5.5 year survivor). I then returned to Wright State and taught in the philosophy dept. After ten years of teaching, I retired and took up photography, taking photos and writin...Expand for more
g feature articles for The Yellow Springs News. I LOVE taking photos. I recently quit that job to live part-time in Florida.
I live part of the year in Yellow Springs and part in Naples FL.
In high school, I wanted to be a Little Colonel and in the Fidelis Club. I wasn't. One of my good friends was Kim Hurt, who I ran into at Wright State. I used to have a crush on her older brother Kevin, on Karlton Kirby and Jim Olson, among others. None of these guys knew I was alive. I had an older brother at Colonel White, Garth Keemer (1972) and a younger sister Shelia Moore (1975).
What I remember about Colonel White is German Club with Herr Ebert; poetry club; fights; racial unrest; walking to school in all weather, and, mostly, missing it terribly after I moved. I often think of my years at Colonel White and I think it was one of the best times of my life. Through the years, I often think of the people I knew there, both fellow students and teachers, and I hope life has given you all much happiness.
