Tedra's Story
College
I loved going to the University of Kansas. The campus was beautiful. For those of you who havenÂt been to Lawrence, the University sits on top of a hill (they call it a mountain). There are trees everywhere and the large limestone buildings remind me of gothic cathedrals. During warm weather everyone hangs out on the lawn in front of the liberal arts building. When I was there, the campus was always full of life. For some reason there were always a lot of dogs running around. Students would bring them and tie them to a tree while they were in class and then would spend hours playing catch with them between sessions. There were also dozens of fat, fluffy squirrels constantly romping about. These squirrels were actually cute, unlike the scrawny, thin tail...Expand for more
ed ground squirrels that we have scrambling around Riverside. The fact that these squirrels ate a diet of constant junk food delivered directly to them by students probably added to their chubbiness. They were so use to being fed that they would practically eat out of your hand.
Academically, I had great fun with debates. Most of the teaching there was in the Socratic Method, so class discussions were often somewhat lively. I didnÂt realize how much influence where you were raised had on your thoughts and opinions until I lived in the Midwest. Because of my West coast upbringing, I often had an opinion different than the majority. The professors appeared to enjoy egging these differences on. It seemed that their philosophy was the more controversy, the better.
