Teena Prentice:  

Teena is originally from Houston, Texas. Other than schools attended in Houston, her schools include Las Cruces High School, NMSU, South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, AZ, then Ottawa University in Phoenix AZ. She was an elementary teacher for 25 years (10 in Special Education), and retired from Laveen Elementary School District in west Phoenix, AZ. My parents divorced in 1959 and when I was a sophomore in High School, my mother married my stepfather. He moved us on a whim often, but in 1962, he decided we would go to the land of gold: California. We broke down in Las Cruces and remained there. We never got to CA. He got a small piece of land north of the dump outside Dona Ana and built a house. You had to travel through the dump to get to and from it. He never finished the house, and we lived in it most of my Jr. year at Las Cruces High. I was in the Jr/Senior play as the shoelace peddler when I was a Jr.. It was a wonderful experience for me, as I was a "mouse", short and dark haired and a pretty shy. I turned 17 in February of 1964 and my stepfather decided we'd go back to Houston, before school was even out. I didn't go with them.
