Terena's Story
Life
Um, what to say? Well, after graduating from Heights, I went to Centre College and blossomed into a real human being with good looks and a social life. After that, I became a television producer, first with NBC then with CBS. The highlight of that was field producing at the vice-presidential debate held at Centre. I did the tv gig a while then quit to finish my novel, which won a grant from Toyota. Then I went to grad school to get my MA in French (I lived in France a while, too). Now I'm a full time interpreter/translator (French to English mostly, some Spanish to French work), working principally with film magazines (the translating part) and African refugees to the US (the interpreting). I'm still writing, though, and my short fiction has recently been blessed with a publishing boom. Most importantly, acolades aside, I'm actually happy and Christian County is thankfully far behind me.
So what do I do these days? Well, I ...Expand for more
read a lot. And speak in French a lot--on the clock and off. I joined Netflix a few months ago and have taken up cooking, which I do remarkably well. Too bad I still HATE washing dishes! I'm learning Swahili when I remember to and I was out of the country practically all summer, hitting France and Spain this trip, with a short walk to Germany one night (really). I guess you can infer from that I travel a lot. I've thought of getting a PhD but Mom reminds me you don't go get a PhD just for the h*#l of it. But then again, for those who knew me at Centre, half of my adult experiences were done just for the h#-l of it and it's gotten me more than a good time this far. I taught VBS at the Methodist church this summer before heading to Europe, so you can guess I still love Jesus. Make that just for the heaven of it. Half of the experiences in my remarkably full life have been just for the heaven of it. And I'm still going. Wanna come?
