Teresa's Story

Life Where do I begin? I haven't seen many people I knew in high school since graduation, and haven't stayed in touch with anyone. That's sad -- I really wish I was better at keeping in touch -- there's a lot of people I'd like to talk to. Does anyone know anything about Debbie Sylvester, Kory (Chris) Christensen, Tonya Moya, Becky Solano, Anthony Lovato, or Scott Arrington? Not long after high school I met and married an older man, (10 years my senior) named Ron Baca and we had two sons. We were together for 10 years before divorcing in 1990. I attended UNM for a few years and received a degree in Business in 1990 as well, then went to IBC for computer languages. Going to college was great! Anyone who knew me in high school would have been surprised to see how badly I wanted those A's in college. I loved the challenge. I dated a lot over the next eight years before meeting my current husband, Robert Sanchez (5 years younger this time - ha!) and having another son with him in 2000. We've been VERY happy together. Robert and I moved to Lehigh Acres, FL in 2003 and bought a GNC franchise business together. Business is going great and we love it! Shortly after we bought our beautiful new house in 2004 we had the exciting experience of our first hurricane -- Charley. It was crazy watching all the wind and rain, and trees breaking around our home while roof shingles and other roof parts blew off our house. Thankfully we were safe inside. The worst part was when the power went out (for 2 days) and we were without air conditioning in 100 degree heat and humidity. Hurricane Wilma came through here last year too but wasn't quite as bad and we didn't lose power thi...Expand for more
s time. Hurricanes are a whole new experience that we'd rather live without, but they call it the dues for living in paradise. Our son, Santana (5) thinks every heavy rain storm is the start of a hurricane now. We miss our family and friends in Albuquerque, so we go home to visit about twice a year. We were just there earlier this month and will be there again for Christmas this year. My two older sons, Rico and Brandon stayed in Albuquerque to finish school. Brandon (20) is starting his junior year at UNM, while Rico (22) is working and going to TV-I part time. They're wonderful people and completely different from each other. Brandon has a down to earth, friendly attitude and loves adventure while Rico is quiet, reserved and more laid back. I'm so blessed to have 3 wonderful sons. I guess the weirdest things that have happened to me over the years is my pacemaker implant and my severe hearing loss. The heart condition I had during high school (no on knew about it) continued to get worse even with medication so I had two cardiac ablations, which failed and finally a permanent pacemaker in 1995. It made a HUGE difference in my life and I forget I have it. The hearing loss came about during my first pregnancy also and has continued to decline over the years. I currently wear two powerful hearing aids, which help, but I can't communicate via phone. My sons and I instant message or text on my phone to stay in touch. People are surprised when they meet me after hearing my husband's description: older with two grown sons, pacemaker and hearing aids. They expect me to be 90 years old! Ha ha! Hope everyone is doing well and that life has been good to you. Teresa
