Teresa's Story

I left Lubbock in September 1979 for those elusive greener pastures, spent 3½ mos in Kalona, Iowa (beautiful country!) and eventually settled down in Spring Valley, CA, with my 7yo son. We lived there for five years, where I met and eventually married an active duty serviceman. I have 5 sons, 2 daughters, 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, plus many other children I adopted along my life journey. We spent 20 yrs moving through and/or living in 29 states. We lived on the Pacific Coast from San Diego, CA, to Seattle, WA, where we marveled at the beautiful ocean sunsets that only our Creator could produce. We have lived in Oklahoma, Mississippi, Kentucky, as well as other points in between. We also lived on the Atlantic seacoast while stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA, where you could drive to the coast, and on a clear day, watch the shuttles launch down in Florida! My children and I roamed the world from the West Coast to the East Coast and finally returned home in March 2000 looking for stability and continuity in our lives, especially after I lost my dad. Aspiring to be a cartoon strip artist when I grew up, my family and friends thought it was a wild dream that would eventually pass. As it turns out, they were right and wrong - I continued to nurture my dream and developed my talents over the years as I branched out into several areas of creativity, including my own line of greeting cards, as well as sewing, quilting, painting, furniture refinishing, and eventually, DIY home remodeling with my own set of power tools, and, no, they are not pink. old my projects in arts and crafts shows in Ft. Campbell, KY and at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA, under my label, “Wings of Promise”, officially established in 25 July 1994. I continue creating and renovating and just dabbling in anything within the creative field of arts. I can't seem to get enough and will never stop growing in this God-gifted area. For the last few years, I’ve volunteered my time, efforts, and labor within the indigent and homeless communities in Lubbock. I quilt for charities/causes close to my heart. I especially love quilting lap quilts and pillow cases for our returning Military Wounded as a member of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Regardless of politics, I’m an avid supporter of our Military Men and Women. Life is good! My dad was my hero. He was a hard disciplinarian, but he taught me three things that shaped me into who I am today: 1) Work hard to support yourself and your family; 2) Give unto others, even when it is out of your own needs; and most importantly, 3) Trust God in all your circumstances. God has always been and continues to be the only constant in my life, and He is the foundation upon which I have raised my children so they become His word as they build their lives on His promises. I am happy with my lot in life (although my children do question my sanity from time to time), and look forward to the day I “retire” (although I see no end in sight), and to sit on that proverbial rocking chair on the front porch. Until then, I take it one day at a time and marvel at God's hand in our lives. God is good! and I am blessed!
