Terrence's Story

Life I was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1962. I began singing and playing the drums at the age of five when my mother let me play with empty grit boxes, pots and pans and wooden spoons.All so i was the drummer for Rev James Marks & The Voies Of Heaven of Detroit,Michigan After graduating from Highland Park High School in Detroit. I joined the U.S. Army in 1980-1986 four active years and two years in the reserves. Basic training in Ft. Dix, NJ and my1st stateside station at Ft. Hood TX. I was in ATI school at Ft. Eustis VA. and different cities throughout Germany. After my term expired I went to Minneapolis, MN to pursue my dreams of a musical career. Immediately after arriving in the Twin Cities in 1985, I joined the Rance Majestic choir playing the drums for the Pilgrim Baptist Church in St Paul, MN. I also played for the Sprit of Christ youth choir where my brother Gregory Adams was the director. I auditioned for and then became a member of the Sounds Of Blackness, under the direction of Gary Hines. The Sounds of Blackness has been well-known in the Twin Cities since 1971. The Sounds gained international recognition in 1991 with the album release of ” The Evolution of Gospel” produced by Jimmy “Jam” Harris & Terry Lewis of Perspective Records & A&M Records . album attributed the album going gold and wining a Grammy award in 1991. The success of this album led the “Sounds Of Blackness” to national & international tours, with solo appearances, and as an opening act for Luther Vandross, Amy Grant, & Shirley Caesar. I made television appearances with The Sounds of Blackness on “The Grammy awards, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Arsenio Hall Show, Patti Labelle’s “Out All Night” and Showtime at the Apollo. I also appeared in Sounds Of Blackness music videos Optimistic, The Pressure, & Testify. Studio recordings sessions include “The Sounds Of Blackness” The Evolution Of Gospel, Mo Money with Grammy award-winning producers, Jimmy ”Jam” Harris & Terry Lewis. As of now I am planning to releases my first solo recording CD. The name of the CD is “The Time Has Come Anthology”, Terrence “T-Bone” Frierson” October 2007 release. I am currently working in the studio with Sounds of Blackness & Terry Lewis recording lead and background vocals for the sound track, “First Sunday” staring Ice Cube tentative release date January 2008. I plan to continue to travel throughout the world with The Sounds of Blackness. I have also plan to tour with my own CD “The Time Has Come Anthology”.
