More about Terrence:"getting ready for retirement".
Well ... after high school, I bumped around jobs till I guess I had found my identity: construction, truck driver, sailor; but once I began plying the Gt-Lks ore-boats in 1976, I had finally found my niche. I was a junior majoring in eng. lit. but moving about on the waters, I had just about everything I needed: job, excitement, free food, free quarters, and very good pay. If I haÃÂÃÂd finished my BA, I would never find employment as fulfilling and which paid as well (all earnings went into the bank) as what I was presently doing; merchant seaman.
I made my move from the Gt-Lks to Military Sealift Command (MSC) in 1984. My theatre of operation was in the Pacific; I had this overwhelming and compelling urge to experience the Orient.

e wife in Manila and married her in Olongapo City (Subic Bay), where all five of my children were born. Operating out of Subic, I quenched my dreams of adventure in the Orient: Hong Kong; Guam; Singapore; Thailand; Malaysia; Australia; Sri Lanka; Kenya; Oman; Qatar; Naples,Italy; S. Korea; Okinawa; Japan; and of course the Philippines. After the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo and the subsequent closing of the military bases in Clark and Subic, we became part of the evacuation and removed to the mainland for four years before making our move to the Big Is. of Hawaii.
Spent seventeen years on the Big Is. and after the children graduated and left to make their way in life, my wife and I relocated to Duluth to reunite with the majority of the kids: the two oldest girls attended St. Scholastica, the younger two followed us, while our oldest son is stationed in Ft. Drum, NY (soon to made their move to Duluth also upon his separation come the end of this year).
Life has been quite fulfilling and the kids and their spouses (those who are married) are all quite well employed while I and my wife have kicked back in retirement to enjoy partaking in the upbringing of our seven grandchildren (baby-sitting and the sort). The Good Lord has truly smiled upon us and we are forever greatful.
I just want to add that Inky was and continues to be a very bright spot in my life; it instilled deep within me my Catholic Faith for which I'll be eternally greatful. I'm very fond of my memories at Inky which has always been and will always be the anchor of my Living Faith. Praise God!
