Terri's Story

I grew up as an Air Force brat. My parents and I lived in many states before I started school. During my school years we lived in Michigan and Massachusetts. Port Austin, MI 1970-73(first-part of 3rd), Sault Ste. Marie,MI 1973-78( 3rd-8th), Provincetown, MA 1978-80(9th-10th), and Oscoda, MI 1980-82(11th-graduation) In 1983 I began working for Ausable Valley Mental Health where I taught mentally challenged adults. My supervisor and another co-worker were having a weekly Bible study which I started attending regularly. They were reading and teaching out of the Bible and encouraged us to study those things for ourselves. I began to read my Bible, possibly the book of John. I mean I really used the Bible as a text book. All my life My mom took me to church. I even went to some youth group things, catechism, and first communion. I was always interested in hearing about the Bible, but something was definitely different now. As I continued to go to the weekly study, continuing to study on my own, and even began to talk to God by praying and asking Him for help to understand His book. The gospel message began to make sense to me. I can tell you that as I kept seeking, searching, reading, and praying, the Lord Jesus Christ truly opened my eyes and my heart to trust Him as my Lord and Savior. He gave me a heart to love and serve Him. I am not perfect. I am still a sinner, but I am a sinner who has been saved by God's grace. If He can save me, He can save anybody. In Se...Expand for more
ptember of 1984, Jim and I were married. I love to tell people that I married my boss, because it's true. He was my supervisor and he still is :) Jim and I lived Cedarville, OH from 1985-89 where Jim was a full time student at Cedarville College. While there he worked with semi independent living adults and also at a group home. I worked one year as a nurses aide then the final three years I taught pre-school at a Christian school. Jim graduated in 1989 with an elementary teaching degree. After Jim's graduation we moved to our new home. Though I never went to college I had enough experience and inservice training to qualify me to be a paraprofessional with the local public school. I worked three years with special needs kids. Jim began teaching in one of our local prisons and continues to do so now. In 1992 I took a leave of absence from my parapro position due to the birth of our firstborn. Since then I have been a full time stay ay home mom. We now have four children. This is our fourteenth year of homeschooling. Our 18 yr. old just finished his first semester of college, our 16 yr.old is a senior, our 14 yr. old is a freshman, and our 11 yr. old is a sixth grader. Our family is greatly involved in hockey, soccer, and much volunteer work. We also love to hang out with our friends and travel when we can. We continue serving the Lord and being part of a Reformed Baptist Church. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I look forward o reading your story.
