Terri's Story
My family lived in Highland Lakes, including my parents (Bob & Shirley) and sisters (Kelly (1978) & Jeri), moving in 1978 to New Hudson, MI. I worked for Perry Drug Store for 13+ years, during which time I attended Madonna University, earning my Bachelor's in Science (Biology) in 1985. I began graduate studies at Michigan State University, transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) after one quarter at MSU. I completed graduate work in the summer of 1988 earning a Master's of Science (Forensic Science). I accepted a (law enforcement) position (Special Agent) with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI) in January 1989, working as a Molecular Geneticist for the crime laboratory in Raleigh. There I met my husband, Jim, who also worked as a Special Agent for the NC SBI within the lab (Latent Prints). We married in November 1990. In 1992 we moved to Black Mtn., just outside Asheville, where we currently reside. Jim still works for the SBI as the North Carolina Statewide Crime Scene Supervisor. cal Community College (MTCC) (still employed!) as the Lead Science Instructor. I teach Human A & P and Chemistry, as well as Microbiology and General Biology.
We have 2 boys, Indy (24) and Jared (18). Indy graduated with his Bachelor's of Science May 2014 and his MA in Experimental Psychology in May 2016 from Appalachian State University (ASU). He is looking for a job with the Seattle Police Dept., with the goal of working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Jared graduated from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College June 2017 with his high school diploma and associates degree and will attend Appalachian State University this Fall. Both boys were fortunate to be in rolled in Bill and Melinda Gates foundation program in which they attended high school on a community college campus and in five years earned their high school diploma and associates degree.
My father (76) passed away August 2011. My mother (81) passed away December 2015. My sister, Kelly, lives in Black Mtn. with her son Jeff. My youngest sister, Jeri, lives with her family in Brighton, MI.
