Terry's Story

Life I have a great life. I'm married to a man who has a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his face. Life is good! My two kids are grown and married. My daughter lives nearby with my son-in-law and my only grandchild. My son and new daughter-in-law 60 miles away. I live in Murphys, CA with lots of open space and only one house in sight. I see deer almost every day, and I try not to notice how they eat my roses. It's hard to believe I grew up in San Francisco. 2007 will mark my third year of retirement from law enforcement. I can't believe how far that timid little girl from Visitation Valley has come. Not only did she graduate from a police academy at 37, she was the director of that same academy 16 years later. She was the first successful female police officer to work for the University of the Pacific, and then became the first female police sergeant at San Joaquin Delta College Police Dept. She's even a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Wow, I can't believe that was (and is) me! Retirement is great. In addition to keeping up with friends and family I walk a marathon and a half each year as a participant in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The 2007 walk in Nor...Expand for more
th Carolina will be my fourth walk to support this great cause. Our goal is to walk in every US city that has an Avon walk. The older I get the more wrinkles I get, but my goal is to see that the wrinkles are all from smiles and laughter. My glass is always half full! Since I last updated my story some things have changed. I'm now working again just for the fun of it! I pour wine for one of the local tasting rooms. The people I meet are interesting and happy to be there. I wasn't able to do an Avon Breast Cancer walk in 2008, but I did walk 17 miles on a track for the Relay for Life. Haven't made up my mind yet about a walk for 2009 yet. July 2010 update: Life has changed, but not my outlook! My Daughter is fighting colon cancer. Seems she has a unique gene, but thank goodness and God the gene was not transferred to my only grandchild. My Daughter is the most fantastic courageous person I have ever met! She (we, I go with her to chemo as often as possible) has completed 6 sessions of chemo and has 6 to go, halfway there! If there ever was a proud parent, I am that parent! I will continue to believe that life is good, and try to make the best of whatever life hands me!
