Terry's Story
Life,
I'm very happy and retired. I live in the mountains of NE Tennessee and enjoy the outdoors and riding our motorcycles with my wife.
Well I gave up the motorcycles after 40 years and bought a boat. Something new to learn. I don't party anymore so I got a cabin crusier (2 queen sized beds) instead. There are a lot of lakes here in TN and I'm looking forward to exploring them and fishing a little.
As for the where you've been part of this it will take a while.
I left East and joined the USMC in Aug 66. I went to Vietnam in Jan 67 in the infantry. I was wounded twice, once in Oct and again in Nov 67. I left Vietnam in Dec 67 3 days before my 19th birthday. I went to Okinawa for about a month then came home to Akron. A very changed place it seemed. Probably just my perspective. I did notice the same people standing in front of the drug store though. I checked in to Camp Lejeune, NC in Feb 68 and left on a Med cruise in April 68. We made ports of call in France, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Malta, just to name a few. More to come.
I got out in 69 and worked for General Tire. That was dull, boring, dirty and a few other things not printable.
I went back in the Corps in 72 and stayed till 82. I traveled to Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore...Expand for more
, Austraila, Phillipines, Thailand, Diego Garcia, Mombasa Kenya, I took part in the rescue of the Mauyagues in 75.
I made another Med cruise in 78, pulled 6 months in Guantanamo Bay also.
There is a guy I worked with at General Tire lives about a mile from me in Tennessee. Small world. Another small world thing is that my wife's daughter married a guy whos mother was in the class of 67 at East. I did not know her though.
When I got out I got a job working for the Navy. Worked in Brunswick Maine, Kings Bay Georga, Groton Ct., and Norfolk, VA. I was the base Locksmith. I was always facinated with locks and collecting them was kind of a hobby. It ended up I got paid for doing my hobby. Not a bad deal. Every day had different things to do and locks and security systems to defeat and fix. Overall I can say my life was/is not boring. As for the places I visited I'm sure I missed a few. I also spent 2 years in Hawaii. I have also been to the Caribean, places like the Virgin Islands and again I have to think of what I'm leaving out. Retirement is good, you just have to keep active.
Like I said I don't party anymore so I mess with my boat and target shoot a lot. The wife and I are NRA certified instructors and teach boy scouts safety and marksmanship.
