Terry's Story

Actually I didn't graduate from Latrobe but I did attend that year, well part of it. However I did graduate in 1978. Let me explain... Some of you may recall that I got married to another of our classmates that year. Probably the dumbest thing that I have done in my life so far. The friends I was hanging with at that time (Our classmates) seemed to be all getting married, so dumb ass me thought that was cool and I did it too! The marriage didn't last nor should it have ever happened. I didn't consider what marriage was really about or the financial side of it. I was 17 and only thinking of sex any time I wanted it. Well to make ends meet I had to quit school and join the Marine Corps. After Boot Camp I was sent to Maine and they made me go to night school, not a GED but an actual school. I got my Diploma in September of 78. With the help of the school a letter and certified copies was sent to Latrobe to request a diploma from my own school "Latrobe". (Most schools did this for Military People). However I never got a response, can't say as I blame them as I was not thier favorite student. Would of been nice though, I really wanted it. Believe me many a times when I was going through Boot Camp I realized I had made a big mistake and would of gave anything to be back at school with my friends. I later learned to Love the USMC and have no regrets about serving my country. I spent 15 years of my life in the Marine Corps. I would of and wanted to do 2...Expand for more
0 but in 1991 the world was pretty much at peace then and the Military was forced to make budget cuts. I achieved a fairly high rank and was five years from retirement so this made me a prime candidate for a cut as they would not have to pay me the rest of my life. I returned to PA and settled in Armbrust for a couple years. Finding work was hard, I got a job with Latrobe Moving & Storage. I hated it, it was hard work and I hate to move my own house let alone someone else's! I applied and got a job as a Prison Guard at the Westmoreland County Prison. I found some old school friends there on both sides of the bars so to speak. I then got a job with the state working for the PA Dept. of Corrections at SCI Greene in Waynesburg as a Correctional Officer. I am currently working there to this day. I plan to retire in 2014 and return to Latrobe/Greensburg area. I currently live in Beallsville, PA. Washington County. with my wife Maxine. She works in Greensburg for the State. I have two children both grown and now serving in the Military, my Son is in the Marine Corps and my Daughter is in the Air Force. *** We had a house fire about six years ago and my Latrobe Yearbooks were destroyed, "76" "77' and "78", I have looked for copies but no luck. I frequently stop at the Latrobe Drive In Flea Market on Sundays and check eBay. I have found other years of the Latrobean but never the right ones. If anyone has extra copies they want to sell please let me know.
