Terry's Story
Hello All,
I recently took two years off from Originating mortgage loans due to the wild and crazy competition of careless and dishonest Loan Officer's who would "bait and switch" borrowers into signing mortgage loans they could not afford. I traveled all over the country examining these closed loans and grading them for purchase by major investors such as Bear Stearns, Countrywide etc.
My travels took me to San Juan Puerto Rico where I spent nine months working at one of the island's major banks which was in grave trouble with the FDIC. After thirty days of performing my normal functions I was taken to the processing department to teach them how to process and submit FHA loans which would be insurable and saleable in the continental U.S. I was introduced to nine Processors who were told to follow my directions in performing their job duties. The introduction was in English and I thought I was on top of the world. Then after a 15 minute lecture in Spanish to them from their Manager he look at me and said in English; Terry do you have any questions? I said "yes, do any of these Processors speak English"? He stood up and walked over to shake my hand and said "Terry, th...Expand for more
is is going to be a challenge". I don't think I had ever spoken a Spanish word in my life. Eventually with the help of God and many translators things worked out very well and the Bank resolved it's issues with the FDIC. While there for nine months I lived in a Resort Casino Hotel on the beach and had the time of my life.
Upon returning to U.S I discovered that over 200 of the nations top mortgage bankers had gone out of business in one way or another and that the nations foreclosure rate was over the top. The company I worked for has no business as well, and I was unemployed for eight months. Overall I think it was a good thing that I got out of the Origination side of the industry because I have never had one Borrower call me to say they were losing their home due to risky loans that I had given them.
I am now back Originating mortgage loans and now trying to help out those people who got hoodwinked by the dishonest competition I chose not to compete with. If there are any of my former classmates who are in need of mortgage assistance, please don't hesitate to call me. I am still in the phone book and live in Tucker.
That's my storey and I am sticking to it.
