Terry's Story
I always wanted to be an architect, so after graduating from Clairemont HS, I attended San Diego City College to get the basic requirements and preliminary architecture classes completed. I then transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at the beginning of my junior year. But, I had met a special person that summer, and we became serious. Jim Parsley and I became engaged at Thanksgiving and we were to be married in June. So, I finished my junior year at San Diego State College to be closer to my fiance and be more involved in the wedding plans. We were married June 27, 1964 and are still happily married.
Jim graduated from San Diego State in June of 1964 and taught for San Diego City Schools for 3 years. He applied for graduate school and chose to receive an NDEA doctoral fellowship at Ohio University. We moved to Athens, Ohio in 1967, with our one-year old daughter, Kimberly, camping our way back to SE Ohio. After receiving his doctorate in 1970, we moved to Ellensburg, Washington, so he could teach college and I could finish my BA degree. I finished in 1973 and began teaching high school that year. I taught Business Education and Journalism classes. I received my Master's degree in 1984. I tau...Expand for more
ght business classes, was a career guidance specialist, an assistant director of vocational (CTE) programs in a large school district in Washington, and was President of the Washington Vocational Association. I wrote a book, "Living Without Salt" which had a foreword by Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet. The book was published by Bantam Books and The Brethren Press.
We had our second daughter, Terry, in 1975. Both daughters are married to chemical engineers; have acquired their MBAs; we have four grandsons. Both our daughters and their families live in Texas.
Jim went back to public education as an administrator, first as Asst. Supt. and then as Superintendent of Schools (Selah, Idaho Falls, and Vancouver). We both retired from education in 2002 and began a consulting business that same year to assist communities in strategic planning.
We are now fully retired and spending time golfing and seeking warmth during the Pacific NW gray, cold, and wet winters. We had a large motorhome and spent time seeing this grand country of ours. A few trips abroad have been welcomed and we look forward to many more. We recently purchased a home in Sun City Palm Desert and enjoy spending our winters in SoCal.
