Terry's Story

Life After being told that I was not college material, I defied my senior advisor and went to Mt. Vernon Community College and graduated with distinguished low (very low)honors. I went on to earn my B.S. and Masters in Clinical Psychology at Murray State University. I practiced for 7 yrs. in Kentucky where I met my wife before moving to Maine in 1975 to become a Regional Manager and Facility Director for the Maine Department of Behavioral and Developmental Services. I have been at the same job and desk for 25+ years. Just this week, I received my Life achievement award from the American Association of Mental Retardation. In 1985, I earned a second Masters Degree in Public Administration and continue to manage mental health and mental retardation services for for about half the geographic area of the State of Maine. My wife and I have two children. Susanne and I live in Aroostook County in northern Maine, but our children bailed out after completing college. Our son, his wife granddaughter and granson outside Wilmington DE where he now has his own business after working for Dupont. He earned a Ph.D. in Appied Chemistry and after working 10 years for Dupont started his own business and has licensed to Spalding Sports Equipment the new "Neverflat" Sports ball technology. Theater Arts and now is a Flight Attendant for Delta Airlines. As I write this, I know that retirement is coming 1128 days that is what I thought five years ago. But now I can only say it is on the horizon. I love my work and my team. I just don't know when I will retire. I still have many ideas as to what I would like to do when I grow up, but have not been able to focus in on one or two. I am terribly nostalgic at this point only listen to the golden oldies of the 50's and 60's. I really look forward to seeing everyone. The Lord has been good to me and my family. I only hope that I completed what He has set before me. Some of you may know that my mom pasted away a couple of years ago after 15 year battle with Alzhemiers. I was lucky enough to have visited on four days before she unexpectedly pasted away. Dad, on the other hand, just celebrated his 90th birthday at the store. Even during the festivities, he would sneak away and wait surprised customers. My brother lives in Mt. Vernon is still in Mt. Vernon carrying on the family remittance business in the old store. His wife who has been working Oregon during their marriage retires shortly to permanently move to the King City. Please feel free to write. I love to hear from everyone. E-mail pictures if you can because i will be doing a show again at our 45th reunion. I would like to capture that before and now experience for the show. Thanks Your young (in my mind) classmate, Terry
