Terry's Story
After graduating from High School, whether you call that Hazelwood or Hazelwood West (since they disown us as the first graduating class), I headed to Cape Girardeau MO and completed a BS Degree from Southeast MO St Univ. In 1976, I met my future bride (Sally) from Affton MO who took me off the partying plan and more on the semi-study, but have a great time plan. Of course, I was a member of the Sig Tau fraternity. In 1979, we wed in St Louis during the gas shortage and rationing. I joined the Air Force ROTC program my junior year and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation. Our first assignment was to Anchorage, Alaska, my birthplace, spending three years, our first daughter being born in the same hospital as I was. After Alaska, we moved to Chanute AFB, Rantoul IL; Aberdeen Proving Grounds in MD; Boeing, Wichita KS (where our second daughter was born on my b-day); Scott AFB, Belleville IL; back to Alaska, this time Fairbanks (North Pole) AK; Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton OH; GE Aircraft, Cincinnati OH; back to Wright-Patt; Maxwell AFB, Montgomery AL for Air War College; back to Wright-Patt one last time; and then finished up my 27-year military career at Scott AFB IL. I retired as a Colonel in 2007. During most of my career, I worked as a Contracting Chief and/or Director. In 2008, I went to work for Customs and Border Protection...Expand for more
, Dept of Homeland Security, in Indianapolis working in contracting as a Government employee. In 2011, I moved to the Veteran's Administration as the Director of Contracts for all the VA Hospitals in Ohio, where I still work. Normally, I am responsible for overseeing all contract operations for all the VA Hospitals and Clinics in Ohio. In April, I was asked to oversee the East Region, thus I have the entire East Coast for the next eight months which includes 1100 employees. I returned to my normal position in December, and in April 2016, my duties once again expanded due to a reorganization. I now support all the VA Hospitals in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Over my life, I have been truly blessed beyond belief. I completed a BS degree and two Masters; a wife of over 37 years; two beautiful daughters who I was able to both coach their basketball team's in high school, one pearl of my eye granddaughter and new grandson, selected as the Secretary of the Air Force's Best in 1995; survived kidney cancer and a bad heart; and a God (Jesus Christ) that has saved me from my sins and has guaranteed my eternal glory. I don't know about you, but due to our split shifts, I have a warped sense of school overcrowding and believe no school levy should be passed until students go through at least one year of split shifts, maybe two or three. Take care and God Bless!!!
