Terry's Story

tzeyen (aol.com) - Greetings friends: As of 2011 I continue to reside in California and have been working at UCLA for 25 years in Information Technology. I am married, my wife's name is Sheryl, and we have two beautiful daughters, 7 year old Rachel Chana (pronounced Hana); and 2 year old Shira Ariella. The following is a very truncated bio of my life since High School. After finishing High School and beginning a course of pre-Medical studies at University, upon reaching the age of 21, I found myself involved in the study of various philosophies and world religions. I began to develop a very exalted view of myself as being very knowledgeable, I was a genius (in my own eyes). I thought I really understood the great mysteries of the universe and the true nature of reality. I had developed a cosmology which I thought was bullet-proof. I was an ardent empiricist, evolutionary humanist, naturalist, and atheist. After studying various philosophies at University, I was particularly impressed with David Hume, I believed I could convince anyone with even half a brain that God didn’t exist; he was a simple answer for simple minds. Well, about that time I decided to read the last book of the bible, curious just to find out what this book, the bible, had to say about the future of the world. The bible was one of the few books which I had never really personally read previously. I had sort of assumed I already knew the things the bible talked about -- children’s stories about people who live a long time ago -- or so I thought. However, I soon discovered I really knew very little about what the bible actually had to say. I discovered, for example, that among other things, the bible talked about the future of the cosmos. It said that toward the end of this present age, all the nations of the earth would begin to turn against the nation of Israel (well, we are certainly seeing this happen before our very eyes today). The bible went on to declare that after much suffering and oppression from the other nations (the bible gives many details) Israel will eventually be established as the greatest nation on the earth by none other than Jesus himself, the Jewish Messiah and King, Creator and Master of the Universe. Well, as you can imagine, all this was a very interesting proposition, so I thought, so I continued to read and study to really understand what the bible had to say. Within a few months time I began to realize that the things I was discovering in the bible were actually really true. And it was astonishing to me. It was the la...Expand for more
st thing I would have imagined! I thought it was just a story book. I began to realize that this Jesus was really who He claimed to be, the Son of God. I began to realize that everything I was reading in the bible was true. Much was empirically verifiable, and the rest all began to make perfect sense. The bible explained why there are wars, suffering, evil, and death in the world. And what the answer is to mankind's problems. I realized that the bible was true and that this Jesus, who I had thought was just another one of the Avatars, was actually different, he was superior to all the others, he had actually physically been raised from the dead and was now alive and could be communicated with. Well, long story short, I came to personally know the Lord Jesus in the year 1973, having thus emerged from my philosophical delusion and background of Eastern religious mysticism, scientism, and heavy occult involvement. At that time I experienced what the bible describes as being ‘born again’. In the late 70's I began to serve as a volunteer for a period of about five years at a ministry located in Hollywood, California called ‘Centrum’ which was dedicated to providing help and assistance, crisis-intervention, and emergency shelter for young men and women needing help off the streets of Hollywood. In the years since then I have participated for periods of time in various churches and denominations, learning the strengths and weaknesses of each along the way. I discovered that it is hard to find a really good, solid, bible teaching congregation. In recent years my family and I have been involved with a Christian/Messianic congregation (many attending are Jews who realize that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah) located in Woodland Hills, California called ‘Adat Yeshua HaAdon’ which translated is ‘Congregation of Jesus the Lord’. Over the years I have focused a great deal of attention and effort in continuing diligent study of the Bible and other Scripture-related resources. Additionally, over the years, I have attended various bible schools, bible training seminars and, in the late 80's and early 90's, The Master's Seminary, which is located in Los Angeles, California. In June of 1990 I was married to Sheryl Cohen, now my wife, Sheryl Zeyen (our last name is pronounced ‘Zion’). Finally, I have continued to be very involved in ongoing bible study and teaching over the years. I have served as an elder and bible teacher at a local community church in Topanga, California where we presently reside.
