EVERYONE PLEASE SIGN ON TO classcreator (dot-com) for info on AHS'61 50th reunion October 2011! Austin Hight School Memories: I remember when:...the "E" on the mountain was changed into an "A" during the football game...being in the band... when the head cheerleader (at an assembly) grabbed both microphones, received an electric shock, and collapsed...Patti Abbot walking into the room in a very tight skirt to deliver a message to the band director...JFK got elected...sonic booms rattled the windows... we heard that British planes had bombed the Suez canal and thought WWIII had started...Dr. Edinoff shot Ted Andress and we were given a school day off..."Elvis" was teased into gyrating in the quadrangle...some guys picked up the ROTC sergeant's VW and carried it to a peculiar parking place... many ROTC cadets passed out while standing at attention during Federal Inspection...my first car (a green 1956 MG-Magnette sedan)... driving over scenic drive every day to keep attending AHS even though I moved into the EPHS district just before my sophomore year... physics teacher Mr....Expand for more
Labbe having us all hold hands in a circle to receive a surprisingly stiff electrical jolt from an old telephone generator... our excellent algebra teacher having to quit because she became visibly pregnant... playing chess with Cliff Duchouquette in Mr Boyd's geometry class... dissecting a rat with color-coded blood vessels in Physiology class...getting an A+ for my term report on "The Chemistry of Mars" in Miss Lozano's chemistry class... hearing of the rifle range underneath the stadium but never getting a chance to use it... being distracted by Toni Wiggs coming into our Spanish class in tennis shorts... receiving detention-hall punishment for laughing in Mrs. Ponder's class at a friend's mock news story "PONDER BREAKS NECK-WHILE PLAYING A GAME OF RUN, SHEEP, RUN"... listening to the reverberating "thwack" of a large wooden paddle being administered by the assistant principal to an offender's posterior... being an unpunished participant in the scheme to register a fictional student "Henry Neuman" ... Sputnik... the U2 incident... and many more things I dare not tell.
