Terry's Story

Life I was born and raised in Ashland, OR. I attended Ashland schools until my senior year when my family and I moved from Ashland to Yreka, CA. I attended my senior year at Yreka Union High School and graduated in 1963. I attended College of the Siskiyous, Weed, CA, and graduated in 1965 with an A.A. in Business. I met my first husband at College of the Siskiyous. We were married in 1964. We moved many times. Some of the places we moved to were Twain Harte, CA, Butte Falls, OR, Hayfork, CA, Moscow, ID, and many other local towns in those locations. We have six children. We were divorced in 1989. I met my second husband, the love of my life, in 1991. We married in 1982. We became a blended family of ten children and 24 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children. I returned to school, Simpson College in Redding, CA in 1993 to complete a double BA in psychololgy/liberal arts. I earned my master's in education in 1997. I hold a multiple subjects CA clear teaching credential and a learning handicapped specialist (special education) credential, with CLAD certification. I have taught special, general & ESL for ten years in California. My husband Jim is a retired US Navy SEAL. All our children are living on their own except Ben who has severe disabilities resulting from spinal meningitis when he was four months old. We are a family of three. We lived in Ripon, CA where I taught special day class, grades 6,7, & 8. I also teach at the University of Phoenix in the master's/teacher credentialing program. As of July 2005, we will return to Tulelake, CA so my youngest son Ben can be nearer to two of his four sisters and other family and friends. I am continuing to work on a second master's degree and to complete a doctorate. I have my own home based business in educational consulting. My "retirement" is not really a retirement! That's ok with me! I believe the most important event that has occurred with Jim, Ben and me is that we joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1998. Our church activities have brought us into contact with so many fine people in all the communities in which we've lived. We have volunteered in many good events and hope to continue to do so when we return to Tulelake next month. And now, as of this date, we are back in Tulelake! Good to return to the basin and the fine people here! :) whoops, time to update: moved to Klamath Falls, OR, 30 miles north of Tulelake. Ben's continuing needs can be much better met in a larger community. I am an educational consultant for several agencies(i.e., Early Head Start, Siskiyou County), certified yoga instructor, certified lactation educator, childbirth educator, instructor for Anger Management classes in Siskiyou County, and most impo...Expand for more
rtantly, still wife of Jim and mom of Ben, Esther, Jeanna, Cheri, Becky and Freddy (wherever he is these days) and lots of grandkids and yes, even some great-grandkids! It's all good...and I thank our Heavenly Father for all the days I've lived so far...::) School Most of my life was spent in Ashland, Oregon schools; in 1962, my father moved with his company to Yreka where he was a log scaler and later a truck driver. He moved our family to Siskiyou County. I entered Yreka Union High School for my senior year and graduated. I went on to attend COS for two years earning an AA in business/secretarial. I always wanted to finish my education; however, many moves and several children placed me "on hold." After my father passed away in 1993, I knew it was time to return to school. I entered Simpson College (as it was known then) in August 1993. I completed a double degree in psychology/liberal arts. The rest of my educational accomplishments are on the college profile. I believe with all my heart that education is empowerment. College I have attended several colleges and universities: College of the Siskiyous, Modesto Jr. College, University of Idaho, Simpson University, CSU-Chico, CSU-Turlock, University of Phoenix, Alliant International University, California Coast University Workplace My work career has spanned many fields: in high school, I did child care and cleaned homes; I also worked in the fields harvesting onions and strawberries. In college I worked as a work study student in COS registrar's office; I also did child care for faculty members. After I graduated from COS, I worked at Scott Valley Bank as executive secretary for the branch manager. I have worked as sales clerk, bank teller, eligibility worker for social services, clerk specialist for the Dean's office, specialist for Registrar's office, administrative clerk for Siskiyou County New Jail project, executive secretary for Siskiyou Co Economic Development, administrative clerk for Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department, drug/alcohol counselor/clerk for Siskiyou County Perinatal Drug/Alcohol Services, property management, clerk specialist for Shasta County Housing Authority, law enforcement clerk for Shasta County Sheriff's Department, executive assistant for Shasta Options, RS/SDC teacher for Modoc County Office of Education, director/teacher of early intervention infant/toddler/preschool county program, acting director/teacher of Tulelake Adult School, SDC teacher at Ripon Elementary School, adult education teacher, adjunct faculty for University of Phoenix in the master's of arts/teaching credentialing programs. I am owner and director for my small business JuniperTree Learning Center & Wellness, and I am a consultant for several agencies.
