Theresa Belville:

CLASS OF 1972

Theresa's Story

I was a very shy and nieve person. My parents were from old fashioned farming families, they grew up during the 1930's Great Depression and that accounted for my looks at school. Most people remember my brother Daniel because he was on the wrestling team and a year behind me. After graduation I went to University of Northern Colorado, but then my parents couldn't pay for my schooling. I joined the U.S. Marine Corps (for the GI Bill) and went to boot camp in April 1975. I was trained as a Military Police Officer when they first started to let women in other fields besides administration and supply. I got to go to Okinawa in 1977, where I met my then husband. I got out, but then I went back on Active Duty and was sent to Communications School. Most units I belonged to I was the only female or one of only three and the only one to go out into the field. My husband and I were married for 18 years and then divorced. I have two fantastic kids and 4 grandsons and one granddaughter. Off and on I was on active duty or in the reserves for the U.S. Marines.. While I was in the USMC Reserves I worked as a Federal Police Officer (Fitzsimmons, CO and FT ORD, Salinas, CA, and as a data entry clerk for Defense Contract Audit Agency (Boston). art-time as an administrative assistant for a center for multiply handicapped children in Nashua, NH. In 1998 I was medically retired from Active Duty in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant of Marines (E-7). I also lost my father that year to Lymphoma Cancer. Between 2001 and 2010, I have assisted my daughter in the care of her oldest two sons (now 16 and 12) and when her youngest was born (now6), She lives in Burleson, Texas. I now live four hours from her and live with my son and his wife in Houston. He has a son by a previous relationship (now 16) (he lives with his mother) and a daughter (19 months) with his current wife. I have traveled through or lived in approx. 45 states and with the exception of one trip, I have enjoyed them all. I had been going to college off and on and only have my senior year left to go. Maybe I'll complete it when I'm 80. I'm addressing a lot of health issues right now. My daughter had an unexpected trip to Maine and needed my assistance, so I took the trip up there, it was really nice up there. She stayed for about 3 weeks and moved back to Texas. As you can see I have a very busy life, even though I can't work and I get to enjoy my grandkids. And my main goal still is to make it to the 50 year reunion.
