Theresa's Story
Life
I live in Buena Park, CA with my husband, son 18 and daughters, 14 and 11. I am an Asst VP of Accounting for a commercial Real Estate inverstment trust. People who knew me in elementary school are not as surprised as those who knew me later that I became an accountant of all things, but I like it.
We still like to get out and see live music when we can, but sometimes we are just too old and tired.
School
I went to Huntington Beach HS for about 2 months, then I took the proficiency test and went to Cypress College. I basically got an AA instead of a HS diploma. I think because I was 15 when I started college. I changed majors a lot. At one time or another in JC I majored in Philosophy, Art, Art History, French and computer graphics. parents would not let me go. I finally ended up with what I think is an AA degree in Liberal Arts. I went to work and had 3 kids. After that I went back to school as an IT major and ended up with a BS in accounting. I am currently studying for my CPA. I think I may start my MBA one of these days so that I can teach later.
Workplace
I sometimes can't believe I actually became an accountant when I grew up, but there you have it. I decided to go into a field that I enjoyed, but that was not emotionally absorbing, the way that art was for me. I wanted to have something left at the end of the day for my kids. Accounting is something that I am good at, and can make money doing, that also has the benefit of leaving a piece of my soul at the end of the day for my family. What more could a girl want?
