Theresa's Story
I attended Blackwood U (Camden County College) for Lab Technology) worked for Virtua Hospital for 35 years and ran on Bellmawr and subsequently Cherry Hill Emergency Services for 20 years. I studied Paramedic, achieved my Registered Pharmacy Tech worked Customer Service for Commerce/TD Bank in their Corporate Offices.
I am now permanently disabled (secondary to severe arthritis/colitis). My daughter blessed me with now 3 year old twin granddaughters and due with a baby boy in April.
I divorced Steve Garson, have three children with him two boys and a girl; I remarried in 1996 to Mark Burckley and moved to Cherry Hill. Together we raised six children(3 his and 2 mine). Our youngest, John age 25 is an Airman in the USAF.
My parents are still alive with Dad age 93 and Mom age 89. I am so blessed with a wonderful, caring and supportive husband.
I love to do crafts;miss working on the ambulance and so wish I was still able to work.I volunteer for assistance with Counselling through various agencies and the ASPCA Animal Welfare.
I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right as I challenged my arthritis with lifting patients, performing medical skills in Pathology and on the ambulance and this hastened the degenerative process of my arthritis. If I had it all to do over again, I would still do the same thing, helping others is my mantra. .
I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
My favorite way to relax used to be riding on an ambulance every night and weekend after working in the hospital all day. I miss it a lot but am disabled now so I...Expand for more
just paint ceramics, make wreaths and flower arrangements. A lot of craft stuff that my hands can do; I used to make jewelry but my hands are getting quite contracted and it makes it a little difficult. I also talk to one of our class graduates, Deidre Lipinski Snee, she is a soulmate and a great friend.
My inspiration has always been all the wonderful people who have taken care of me over the years for my multiple hospital stays since age 11. They were warm and compassionate, nonjudging and loving. I only hope I was able to afford such to my patients (although I have received awards and letters and gifts) which I find quite embarrassing. I ran on the ambulance to help people; when I am not helping people I feel empty. I guess Mrs. D'Antonio was a great inspiration to me also.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Debbie Lynam Mary Lynam, because they really don't get it; they have judged me without the proper knowledge. Is that what friends are for????.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the living room dining room and kitchen to a great room and add on a sunroom which is in the works. My dream home would be I am in it as long as my home contains my husband Mark and my children and grandchildren are comfortable in it. And it must be LIVED IN..
My children have taught me that people who judge are not worth the brain power to think about them; they have shown me stamina throughout the years of toil and trouble and divorce but most of all they have shown me LOVE. Children are great and GRANDCHILDREN ARE CHERUBS.
If I won $100 million, I'd give a lot of it to rescue for animals, then spend the rest on my children's trust funds, my grandchildren and a summer home at the shore YEAH.
