Theresa's Story

My journey in life thus far, My eldest 22-year old son graduated from college U.C.Berkeley after 3-1/2 yrs. with a BS in EECS and is now working at L3 as a computer programmer. My second son is 21 at SCC in Orange and want to become a computer graphic designer. My youngest, a daughter is 19-years old sophomore at SFSU, majoring in journalism. My husband Dan and I have been married for 23-years. He is a retired parole agent II for the State Dept. of Corrections.Together, on most nights we walk our 7-year old pug, Toby and end our walks by sitting on our favorite park bench and talk about our day or what's on our mind at that moment. We also love our 1-year old rescued cat from SF named Kittycat...he's entertainingly (e.g., catches bugs and drags interesting objects in from the garage)And he loves to climb up on top of our valances and "watch his domain." He a curious and lovable lil' black/white tabby. Currently, I am a marriage and family therapist(MFT)intern at Straight Talk Inc, Cypress and The Learning Center/AUHSD. I graduated from CSUF/Garden Grove-Cohort Counseling program with a MS in Counseling in 2007 and a BS in Cl...Expand for more
inical Psychology (2005). I currently work in the Garden Grove and Anaheim Union HS Districts in a academic setting. I provide individual, group, couples and family therapy. I enjoy working with elementary, middle and high school students and their families. I have 1800 hours of experience and need 1200 more hours until I can sit for my state board exams (i.e.,BBS). I am also looking forward to working in a clinical setting with those suffering from mental disorders or with the geriatric population, those with substance use disorder (SUD)&/or have contracted AID/HIV, or those veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)(I also want to be trained in EMDR as to help alleviate those who have suffered any trauma or loss. I incorporate play & art therapy, role play, guided imagery and relaxation and other psycho-therapeutic interventions. I tend to take a client-centered & humanistic approach when I am with my clients. In general, I try to be there for my clients as they are on their own journey to heal, problem-solve and to grow from their experiences. Best Wishes to GHS-Class of 1980! Theresa Yoshida-Nakagawa :)
