Therese's Story
I was born in Cambridge MA. I went to Kindergarten, 1st and part of 2nd grade in Everett, MA - then we moved to Jamaica Plain, MA. I attended the Agassiz School for about a month, when the Sisters at St. Thomas Aquinas called to say I would be allowed to join my two sisters in this school and finish out the 2nd grade. This school was tough for me. I was so shy and the nuns were such bullies! I was such a sweet little girl but I guess the nuns didn't think so! Some of the nuns I remember from those days are Sister Edwards, Sister Faustina (I actually had her two years in a row!), Sister Volarian (we called her Sister Volcano - the name said it all!), Sister George (the nicest one!). One of the 5th grade teachers was a "Lay teacher." I don't remember her name, but she took temper tantrums where she would jump up and down and it was scary and comical. I had a man lay-teacher...Expand for more
for 5th and the same teacher for 6th. He was the best, but his name has also slipped my mind. I remember he had a new mustang! He actually gave some students rides home - it was allowed back then! We moved to East Boston toward the end of this year - just when things were getting fun too and attended the Joseph Barnes Jr. High and eventually E. Boston High. We moved again when I was a junior to Brockton and attended Brockton High. This school was newly built and was the largest school I had ever seen. It was huge and I got lost all the time going from class to class. I eventually found my way around, made new friends and graduated. I didn't go on to college until I was 48 years old. I attended Eastern Nazarene College - an excellent college, by the way. I started with my Associates Degree, then got my Bachelor Degree and finally earned a Master's Degree (3.975 gpa) !!!
