Thomas's Story

I have done a great deal. I am retired Army. While in the Army I taught chemical, biological, chemical warfare defensive postures. I was also a legal clerk/court reporter. After I retired I earned my BS and MS in psychology, and went to work as a Rehabilitation Counselor in Kansas, you know where Dorothy lives with Toto. I returned to Michigan in 2000. I have done a variety of things since I came home. If you are interested in learning what I am up to drop me a line. I married Pat McVeigh from Clarkson. I went to work in Detroit at a fabrication plant. I worked there for about a year. Then I went to work as a plumber. I worked as a apprentice out of Hamtramick for about two years. Then I joined the Army. I did my basic training in Fort Lenard wood. From there I was assigned to the First Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. I joined the Army in Jan 1975, I retire in 1980. The reason for my retirement was that I was involved in a motorcycle accident in August of 1979. Some of the injuries that I experienced were; A crushed vertebra, T-6 to be exact. I also broke all my ribs, my sternum, and my right shoulder blade. I collapsed my lungs, and let us not forget, I landed on my head. The rumors in school that I had a hard head was not rumor but the truth. That fact is why I am here. A consequence of landing on my hard head was a comma that lasted for twenty seven days. The medical people say that I was out of my comma in 27 days. My accident occurred on August the 11th. It was deemed that I was out of the Comma in early September. I am not sure what all the variables are that were considered to come to that conclusion, I want to tell you that I was not in touch with reality with any consistency before December of 1980. People do not understand how thick the post comma fog is. There are rumors going around that suggest that I am still in that fog. If that is true I have to tell you that a the least that fog has gotten a lot thinner in the past thirty two years. In that thirty two years I learned to talk, walk, and think again. I am not sure that the second time around is better. But I can tell you that this second time around was a gift from God. It was one that I ...Expand for more
choose not waste. I earned my BS, and MS. after I had experienced my injuries. I prayed long and hard before I started school. You see when I woke up the Army gave me a W.A.I.S. For you folks who are not in the know, this is an adult intelligence test. At that point in time I was not at the top of my game. I scored a 68. The normal IQ is around a 90. So you see I truly did experience a little bit of brain damage in that accident Now contrary to popular belief there I had no brain damage in high school. You see going to school was something that I did not know that I could handle. Even though my IQ had improved with my recovery to the point that my IQ score was at that point in time 125. There was still had doubt. I truly could not do this without God. So God and I went to school and earned a 3.2 GPA in my undergraduate work, and I earned all A's except for two B's in my graduate program. You know with those grades I had to to have heavenly assistance. I then went to work as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the state of Kansas. I worked in the state of Kansas for around ten years. Then I came home to Michigan. I currently work in Flint for "The Disability Network" an independent living center. Then ended my association with the Disability Network and went to work for my self. I bought a franchise that offers both business and the community essential services. I just went from serving the disabled to serving all of my brothers and sisters. If you want to learn more about these services just drop me a line and we will get together. The company that I now own a Franchise with is the biggest essential services provider in the world. I will end this note with the assurance that I have a great deal of fun working this franchise. More fun than I have ever had in any position that I have held in the past. The people that this corporation has drawn together are the best people that I have ever been associated with. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to introduce all of you to people with the hope that you would become a member of this great group of people Those of you who remember me from back in the day, know how much I enjoy people and the fun this life has to offer..
