Thomas's Story

Graduated Abe in 1970. Went to LSUNO, too many protests. Went to Private Engineering School in Baltimore until 1975. Came home to work out of N.O. Got Married to wife Nancy (from Baltimore) in July of 1977. Worked for Lykes Bros Steamship Co. traveling around the world from 1975 until 1980. Son Gabriel born in June of 1979. I worked as a Stationary Engineer at a large Hospital for 4 years until 1985. Opened auto repair business until 1987 when I went to work at Domino Sugar in Arabi, LA. Daughter Kirstie born December 1988 and son Zachary born September of 1993. Lost everything in 2005 to Katrina like most people. Moved to Central West Louisiana (small town of Many, LA on Toledo-Bend Reservoir) and commuted from Arabi to there weekly for two years until May of 2007. Left Domino after 19.5 years and opened "Many Small Equipment Repair". A small business repairing golf carts, tractors and mowers, etc. It is quite successful in it's first year and seems to be growing well. I live on 18+ acres with a 4+ acre pond. It is well stocked with bass, bream, catfish and hybrid bream. I also have 9 acres of pasture and a 5 acre hardwood hollow. I grow corn, squash, Okra, watermelons, tomatoes and onions in my 1+ acre...Expand for more
garden. I own 3 tractors and use them for cutting plowing, tilling and planting. It is located 5 miles out of town in an area with almost no neighbors. I love it and the wife adores it also. We have two kids ( 14 and 19 year old) with us. The youngest son is in 9th grade at Negreet High School and my daughter attends Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Our oldest son works for the US Gov't and is member of the 122nd Air Support Operations Squadron ( 122nd ASOS) of the LA Air National Guard in Alexandria, LA. He just returned from a tour in Afghanistan where he served as an Air Force JTAC (TAC-P) assigned to the173rd Airborne Unit operating in Northwestern Afghanistan. Life is good and God has blessed us. Things aren't always great but things always work out in the end. I and the wife believe that it is like the country song says, "God bless the broken road that lead us here." God Bless you all and may you stay from harm. Tommy Bird The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Barbara Manteris, because I found out that some people told her I said bad things about her and they lied. I don't mind people holding things against me if they are true. Lies bug me forever.
