I retired in 1993 after 30 years as a social worker/supervisor/program adminstrator in the Michigan Department of Social Services. After retirement, my beloved wife, our geriatric cat and I moved to Florida to care for my Mom (in her 90s, needing family nearby), but we couldn't abide Florida's heat, humidity, constant hurricane threat, bugs, and (I'm sorry, conservatives, but it's the truth!) we were surrounded by Republicans. We moved to Arizona where everything is perfect (even the Republicans keep a lower profile and don't throw stones at us). My beautiful wife Pat (who had a 30-year career as a Claims Representative in the Social Security Administration) has now written 6 novels that, in my (only slightly prejudiced) opinion, are wonderful.
