Barbara's Story
Life
Hey All!
Where to begin? OK, so I got engaged, graduated college, broke up w/ fiancee, got a job at JMHS, married an art teacher, went back to college, graduated again, became a teacher, got divorced, lived with Mom and Dad at age 40, got married again...boy I've been busy.
I still run, although I've been semi-retired for the past few years. For awhile I trained & ran competitively for Miles Ahead Sports (adidas), Shore AC and Jersey Shore Running Club. Hoping to get back into it...it would be nice to see if I could get back into shape at 43:)
I've been married to Todd Cornish for 2 1/2 years. He is the smartest, funniest man I've ever met. We have so much fun together...We never stop laughing!
I live & work in SO Ocean County. It's a lot like Jackson was 20 years ago...lots of trees! Of course, with over-development, we should be overrun in the next decade.
Well, that's all I can think of now...email me if you need anymore thrilling nuggets of info!

School
I thought most boys had cooties! I liked a guy at Brick. His name was Michael P. & he had beautiful blue eyes & dark hair...and a girlfriend, boo.
The most inspiring teacher was Anne Engle. I just loved her. What a great teacher. You could tell she loved her job.
Honestly, I really hated high school. People were so unkind, especially if you didn't wear the right clothes and have cool shiny toys. So I threw myself into track & cross country. Hey, you might have had Jordache jeans, but I ran a 2:22 880! AND I got 10th in the county, conference & state group meet.
I would only go back if I could bring my more confident attitude & my bangin' wardrobe. And be the dress size I am now. And drive up in my SUV (her name is Egbert). Yeah, that's a lot of requirements. Think I'll just stay here!
My happiest memories are at Mandy Z's house. We had some fun crazy-ass parties there. PLUS...Expand for more
it was staggering distance from my parents house. An easy commute.
College
I started, like most of us poor folk, at OCC, where I drank my way through the first year. This explains why I had to go an extra semester. I ran on the cross country team, got second in NE Region, and got to go to Kansas for the Nationals! I ran crappy but, hey, I was there! Did semi- and fully-illegal things with Circle K. I'm not proud.
I went to South Carolina Upstate (again, the economy version of Carolina) and ran cross country and....wait for it....WAS A CHEERLEADER FOR THR BASKETBALL TEAM! I'm sure those who knew me way back are alternately puzzled and horrified. But yup, it's true. I'll post pics as soon as I can find them. Best times had with Kelly Jane & Melody. We rocked Tracers!
A brief stint at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic...fond memories of my first love, John.
Came back to NJ to finish up at Georgian Court. I got my teaching degree, special ed. certification, and K-8 certification.
I'd like to get my master's, but I'm pretty busy. Soon, soon...
Workplace
I spent the requisite time working at Great Adventure (rides, games, drawing little cartoons). Then I got a job selling shoes at Kinney's! I love my brother-in-law who got me the job, and I did acquire my love for shoes there, but I hated putting shoes on strangers. Al Bundy portrays the life of a shoe salesman quite accurately. I waited tables in college. Kinda fun, very hard. When I graduated & came back to NJ I got what I thought was a temporary job substitute teaching at Jackson High School. And guess what? I LOVED IT! I went back to school for teaching, worked at a preschool and eventually got a full time teaching position at Manchester HS. I switched jobs in 2004, to be closer to my new home. I now work at Pinelands Jr. High, & I love it. Amazing, since Jr. High was the deepest pit in Hell for me...
