Thomas's Story
After graduating from Seton Hall Prep in 1970, I continued my studies at Seton Hall University while working part-time at Lanky's Sunoco, on South Orange Ave. (I needed to supplement my student loans to pay for my education.) After two years of pre-med curriculum, I came to the realization that Medical School was not in my future. I changed my major to Psychology because I enjoyed it (not because it was likely to lead to a career.) When the gas crisis struck in 1973, I found part-time employment as a store security officer for Bambergers Department Store in the Livingston Mall.
After earning my BA in Psychology from SHU, I found employment as a Probation Officer with the Middlesex County Probation Department. During this time, I worked in New Brunswick and Perth Amboy. In 1975, I married my first wife and moved to Forked River, NJ.
I left the Middlesex County Probation Department to attend the New Jersey State Police Academy in September 1977. I graduated from the State Police Academy in January 1978. I was assigned, as a general road-duty trooper, to South Jersey Stations at Port Norris, Mays Landing, and Tuckerton. I was blessed with two sons: John (born in 1978); and Christopher (born in 1980.)

selected for assignment to the NJ State Police Breath Test Unit where I spent a great deal of my career as a technician, expert witness, and instructor. I was divorced in 1992, married my current wife, Linda, in 1993. I acquired a terrific step-son, Robert, in the process. Later in my career I was transferred to the State Poice Central Laboratory where I served for two years as Assistant Lab Director. I was transferred back to the Alcohol/Drug Test Unit where I was promoted to Lieutenant and ran the unit until my retirement in 2004.
After retirement, I took a year off to concentrate on woodworking, an activity which I thoroughly enjoy. After about 18 months of leisure, I returned to the NJ State Police as a part-time civilian investigator for the Business Integrity Unit. My schedule is flexible and I'm not permitted to work more than 944 hours per year.
I've made my home in Forked River since 1975 and I've watched the town and it population grow almost to the point of saturation. It's still a great place to live.
My youngest son, Christopher married Theresa McGlaughin on 10/10/10. My oldest son, John, will marry Nicole on July 31, 2011. Robert is single.
I enjoy spending part of the winter in Central Florida.
