Thomas's Story
Life
Send me a message at tomcarmody at cox dot net. After 30 plus years at the San Diego Police Department I took a service retirement at the end of June, 2005. Retirement is great! My bride has also retired as a letter carrier from the Postal Service. We plan to put our 5th wheel to good use and travel this great country from sea to shining sea. In August, 2006, I passed my Technician exam for Amateur Radio (HAM). In June, 2007, I passed another exam and upgraded to General. I use my law enforcement expertise working emergency communications at incidents where immediate protection of life and property is needed when normal modes of communications have failed. My call sign was KI6FCM, but I have a new one now. It is KJ6TDC. I have joined two emergency organizations for HAM Radio. One is ROARS, Ramona Outback Amateur Radio Society which handles emergencies in and around Ramona California. The other is SATERN, Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network. I can be called up to go to any major disaster in the U.S. That should keep me from getting bored. :) I am the SATERN Coordinator and the Net Control Operater for San Diego County. Every Thursday evening I run two radio nets. At 8:00 you can tune to the 2 meter band, 147.075 with a positive offset and a PL Tone of 107.2. Then at 8:30 we move to 145.320 with a neg. offset and a PL tone of 107.2. With my upgra...Expand for more
de to General I can now participate in the SATERN National Net on 20 meters at 14.265. If you are interested in what SATERN does, you can google the word SATERN and go the the web sites. Drop by and visit if you are in the area. October 2012 Update***
My wife did retire, but the road trip around the country in the 5th wheel is on hold and it is doubtful we will ever move to the property in Arizona. My Mother-in-law is in her last stages of Dementia so lots of time is spent caring for her. On top of that we now have two granddaughters, age 3 and close to age 2 that are only 6 miles away so they are here or we are at their house several times per week. Because of Mom's problems I had to resign as SATERN Coordinator and the secretary of the ROARS group, but I still run the SATERN Nets for San Diego county. I am usually on the radio with several emergency disaster groups every evening except Friday and Saturday. I no longer work for Drew Ford, so you can't get your discounts on a new Ford car or truck from me anymore. Still loving life and pulling pranks on friends. Example: Rattled the father of the bride at a wedding we attended last week when I told him not to worry because I just called the police department and gave them the license plate of the bride and groom "escape" vehicle and told the dispatcher there was a 207 in progress, (Kidnapping). God Bless,
Tom
