Thomas's Story

Life Graduated Statesboro High School in 1970. Went to South Georgia College for 2 quarters, partied until dad put a stop to that! Joined the Navy in January 1971, boot camp in Orlando March to June of '71 (one of the last 12 week companies...Co. 063). Stationed at NAS Albany and NAS Key West with RVAH-13 until separation in December '74. Made two cruises to beautiful Southeast Asia and the Tonkin Gulf/South China Sea aboard the USS Enterprise and USS Ranger during this adventurous time in my life. Married my beautiful wife while in the Navy in 1972. Have been in law enforcement since 1976. Finished college through St. Leo University (Atlanta Center) in 1995. Went on to Columbus State University and attained a Master's Degree. Currently an adjunct professor of Criminology and Public Administration at St. Leo (Atlanta Center) in addition to my "full-time" job. Getting a little nostalgic in my "old age" and have started trying to contact old friends, classmates and shipmates. Feel free to call anytime, I'm in the Atlanta metro phone book or email tgille6770 at aol dot com. W...Expand for more
orkplace I've been involved in law enforcement since 1976, when I became a police officer for Clayton County, GA. Retired from Clayton County in 2005 and went to work for another metro Atlanta agency after a full week of "hunny-dews". Working on that second retirement check! Military I entered the Navy in March of 1971, going to boot camp in Orlando, FL, Company # 063 (company commander was RD1 William Smith.) After boot, went to NATTC Memphis, TN, for Avaiation Storekeeper "A" School. Upon completion, assigned to RVAH-13, NAS Albany, GA. First cruise to WESTPAC aboard USS Enterprise and second cruise aboard USS Ranger. RA-5C community was transferred to Key West, FL, later part of 1974. Received an "early out" for college December of 1974, leaving the Navy and Key West behind (or so I thought). About 1987, went back into the Naval Reserve as an IS, made PO2, but got out again in 1990 due to family health situations. Best thing that ever happened to me was being in the Navy (and getting the hell away from Statesboro)...it's amazing how fast you mature when lives depend on you.
