Thomas's Story

Happily married, my wife is from Osaka, Japan and we have two creative (and bossy) kids. My son is an independant filmmaker and was featured in the 2015 Hawaiian Film Festival. He a driven and ambitious entrepenuer and makes me and my wife very proud. My entertaining teenaged-princess is now very much into the K-Pop scene and has formed an All-Girl Dance Troop. Her current ambition is to be in the marketing and promotions field for musical acts - Korean/Japanese Pop Groups specifically. Both are wonderful and well balanced individuals and I thank the Lord for the blessing. After high school and during college I got into the fashion scene in Hawaii, to use my creativity and art skills (and meet models). The artsy club scene in the 80s and early 90s was a great venue for fashion and music and was involved with special events at the various hot spots of the time (Spats, the Wave, Pink Cadillac, Black Orchid, Maharaja, Pink's Garage). I am so thankful to have partaken of the scene during its peak and with the best spectrum of music! It was pretty crazy during the 80's and through most of the 90's until I met my wife who did the same in Japan. We've both mellowed out and dropped out of the scene, although we do cameos once in awhile, especially if we are comp'd. I started doing visual merchandising and fashion stylizing for retail companies in the 70's and 80's, but got bored after the fashion scene (following the music scene) changed from refined couture, to gundgy and non-glamourous rags. Yes, I did say that! The visual display industry also got too homogenized and dull, and the budgets weren't so extravagant anymore - less fashion shows and galas, and no parties! But mostly there was less allowance for creativity. So switched to store image and planning (which has better budgets and a margin of creativity allowable), and after working for years doing visuals ...Expand for more
for various designer boutiques in Hawaii, decided to work as an independent design consultant (and not have to wake up early, or so I thought - now have to stay up all night finishing up designs) in the retail and hospitality fields designing for stores, food service outlets, and kiosks. Biggest client was General Growth Partners who owns Ala Moana Center and 199 other malls around the country, Interests? Well, let's see - love motorcycles, but am banned for now for having one since having several accidents (spectacular - should have been on film) in the 80's and 90's. Unique architecture and fine product design are other appreciated fields. Food - I find I enjoy just about everything - Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Hawaiian, Mexican, Japanese, Filipino, French, German, Indian, and of course, good ole American BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Rib-Eye Steaks, and Honey Glazed Fried Chicken (since the Colonel lost all his spices). Only English food I can't get excited about. Enjoy new technology and science, especially the new hybrid autos being produced. The complexity is intriguing although I would think the maintenance would be rather daunting. Other source of enjoyment is science fiction in both film and literature (with a dash of the comical thrown in) as it offers imaginative alternatives that could be plausible and thus is enjoyable in its intrigue. That's sort like Matrix talk, don't you think? Ergo... mindful escape, but without drugs. Am now a Christian after jumping ship from being a Catholic (too much guilt) and attend a church that is English/Japanese in Manoa. Thank god for all your blessings! I need more. Please. At this point in life I would like to get involved in designing houses of worship and modular living capsules for the homeless. Will see what 2017 brings in the future. For now enjoy a natural fruit tea and relish life and give praise. Amen.
