Thomas's Story

Life I am a 2d Degree Black belt in karate. I am married to Kathy Crawford, Buchser High School, class of 66 and we live in Minnetonka, Minnesota. I enjoy karate, Russian Kettlebells (a diabolical form of weight lifting) and shooting (I possess a permit to carry firearms issued by the State of Minnesota.) I also read, cross country ski in winter and bicycle in summer. I am a lifelong bird watcher and take frequent trips to weird places to see them. My latest adventure was to BIg Bend National Park in the southwestern edge of Texas. I am a baseball nut, now as always. I love life and enjoy it more as I age. It just keeps getting better. UPDATE: I am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with espophageal cancer in November 2012 and underwent a horrid plan of treatment that resulted in my losing 50 lbs and my esophagus but being cured. I am grateful to be alive and plan on retirement in April 2014. School I frankly did not enjoy my school years. I dropped out in the 12th grade. I simply see no reason to say more. College After my discharge from the Navy I returned to Santa Clara California and began school at San Jose City College in September 1972. I graduated with an AA in June 1973 and transferred to San Jose State University in September 1973. I graduated from SJSU in June 1975 with a BA in Political Science. I started law school at Indiana University in August 1975 and graduated from law school with a Doctor in Juri...Expand for more
sprudence degree in May 1978. Workplace I am a partner in Barna Guzy and Steffen, a 34 lawyer firm located in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis Minnesota. I moved here after graduation from law school in 1978. I am a senior partner at the firm specializing in business litigation. I am a Certified Civil Trial Specialist and responsible for Complex Civil Litigation at the firm. Kathy and I intend to retire: I want to retire to a lake in northern Minnesota, she to Pismo Beach California. All I know is that somehow we will work this out. Military 1965-1972, Enlisted service US Navy. From 1965 to 1966 I was a deck seaman on the USS Page County (LST 1076). From 1966 to 1967 I served as a Radarman aboard USS George Clymer (APA 27). In October 1967 I was transferred to the USS Bradley (DE 1041) and served a tour of duty in Vietnam, providing naval gunfire support to troops in III and IV corp. In 1969 I was transferred to a new ship, the USS Wichita, (AOR 1) and detailed to bring her around from Boston, where she was commissioned, to Long Beach California. From there I was transferred to shore duty in Long Beach, where I served with the Shore Patrol and eventually as a Master of Arms in the Long Beach Naval Station. I was discharged from the Navy on February 1, 1972. I spent a number of years after my discharge from the Navy serving in the Army National Guard, as a Military Police Officer. I left the military for good in April 1990.
