Thomas's Story
After High School, I went down to Purdue and picked up a Bachelor of Science Degree with a minor in Computer Sciences. Joined a Fraternity: Tau Kappa Epsilon. And, I spent alot of time studying Martial Arts; in fact, I continued to "play Judo" until I was 38 and continued with "full contact Karate" into my late 40's.
After College, I joined the Navy. I spent roughly twenty (20) years on either Active Duty or in the Active Reserves before I transferred to the Retired Reserve in 1994. I did alot of interesting things in the Navy including: Engineering Officer (Surface), Judge Advocate General and Special Duty Officer-Intelligence (Middle East). I also helped build and design some Computer Programs for the Navy. My last job with the Navy was as the Executive Officer (second in command) of a Readiness Unit. When I transferred to the Retired Reserve, I held the rank of Lieutenant Commander (O-4).
After a couple of years on Active Duty with the Navy, I went to Law School and picked up the Degree of Doctor of Juriprudence (J.D.). I have been a Trial Lawyer and in General Practice for about 30 years now. I do alot of Criminal Defense work; I close over 250 criminal files each year. I also do Real Estate Law, Family Law, Municipal Law and many other areas of general civil and criminal practice.
Every couple of years, I have tried to do "something different".
In the 1990's, I thought it would be fun to go back to flying (i...Expand for more
f you re-call, I was licensed as a Private Pilot while we were still in High School). By the time I finished flying (right after 9/11) I was an Instrument rated, Multi-engine Commercial Pilot; a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI-A); an Instrument Flight Instructor (CFII); a Commercial Glider Pilot; and, both an Advanced and Instrument Ground Instructor. I now have alittle over 1,800 hours of flight time most of which was paid for "by the government" as I flew alot with the United States Air Force Auxillary in support of the US Coast Guard, the DEA and the US Customs Service. I also ran the Flight Orientation Program at Notre Dame University for three years; got some really great seats at their football games as part of that deal !!!!!!!
In 2000, I thought it might be fun to became an EMT, and (after I got certified in both Indiana and Illinois), I spent the next 8 years volunteering around 200 hours per year on various Ambulance Services with the United States Coast Guard and with the American Red Cross. Never charged or made a dime off of any of it; just thought it was the right thing to do !!!!!! Helped alot of people !!!!! Felt pretty good about it !!!!!!
I still play music. Played guitar in a little over 15 musicals over the last couple of years including a few shows at the Radisson, and I still play percussion (Drum Set) in the "Rusty Pipes".
