Thomas's Story
Life
I moved to the Tampa Bay area in Florida in 1982. Specifically, I live in St. Petersburg near the beaches. I have now been in the south longer than I lived in MO.
In 1994, I met the love of my life, Bev. She helped immensely in stabilizing and centering my life with goals and love. 10 years ago, she convinced me to leave the construction industry and go to work at St. Petersburg College. This move has rewarded me over and over several times.
In no time at all, Bev & I were living the American dream. Both gainfully employed at the college with a house on the water less than 2 miles from work, two cars, a boat, a dog and everything else to make life a pleasure. Even money was never an issue.
Then three years ago, Bev fell ill with a prolonged fever. It was later diagn...Expand for more
osed as lymphoma. This type of blood cancer is very treatable. However, Bev had some blood defects which presented its own unique complications. After battling for two years with chemo, fevers, extreme fatigue and all the other effects of cancer, she succumbed to this dreadful disease.
Eight months later, the dog died. I now find myself alone in a home where so much love and a zest for life once dominated. I am not trying to tell a sad story. This is only where I have been and where I am now.
I fill my time working on the house and out on my boat. I am out on the boat as often as time and the tides allow. The ocean tends to allow me peace of mind which lets me review my life and ponder what can be. My future is unwritten and I cherish my memories of love, but life goes on.
